Bottom 25% at UT, < 3.0. Secondary journal + decent 1L summer jobs. Worth doing OCI, or am I SOL?

Don't skip opportunities for interviews just because you don't think you have a shot.

This. Don't skip any interviews. I was median exactly at last year's OCI and had lottery screeners that turned into callbacks (some successful) that I had no business thinking I had a shot at. (Haynes Boone, BB, etc); ultimately, I had several choices.I got really good at interviewing by the end of 25 screeners and 13 callbacks.

Tl; dr

Don't skip opportunities to, at the very least, get really good at interviewing. It will help you immensely going forward.

can anyone comment on how highly one needed to bid Jones Day/Cooley/Winston/Perkins Coie to get them in the past year(s)?

Depends on your grades, I think. I had a 3.52 and bid both JD and Perkins Coie outside my top 15 and still got interviews. Also bid Winston outside my top 15 and didn't get an interview. Throwing out that I was a minor URM, in case that made a difference.

Is it true that there's a lot of Big Law firms that won't accept you if you are not on Law Review? I am putting together a bid list and lowkey freaking out.

Honestly I knew I was an above-average (whatever that means) interviewer going into OCI. I got really good at it and practiced the hell out of bullshitting my way through it. I know that sounds crass, but seriously "most" interviewers just wanna shoot the breeze, and I did this for the most part. Of course, depending on one's personality, body language, etc, YMMV

I also acknowledge that I probably got really lucky. Callbacks were much less successful, however. Grades seemed to come into play a lot, which surprised me based on what I heard about the screener/callback process

Let me be the first to say that UT's delay in releasing bids is driving me crazy. All I've done is refresh.

Any idea if Baker Botts Houston might be hiring 3Ls? Or is that door shut until lateral season starts up down the career path.

UT law '15 here. Back in my 2L OCI, I feel like most people median or above who wanted biglaw got it (biglaw generously defined to be 200+ attorney firm), and everyone who didn't want biglaw got what they wanted. I literally knew of less than 10 people unemployed right after graduation. Pretty sure you guys will be fine, since the economy is better and the class size is smaller.

Nervous. UH/SMU here. I maxed out my bids, all but two extended invites to interview, I selected the max to interview with, and now just gotta wait until OCI. I know statistically I should absolutely get at least one offer, but until it happens I am convinced I will crash and burn and get nothing. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Is anyone aware of how transfers have done in the past?

I don't have any concrete data, but they seemed to do slightly better than the overall student body. Most seem to get biglaw.

Seemed like the exact opposite to me, but small sample size and all anecdotal, etc.

Similar experience. Transfers I knew on average did not do well at OCI. Some did get biglaw, but I would say most I interacted with did not.

When you say biglaw do you mean legitimate biglaw, or are you also including 200+ size firms? From your interaction, what kind of jobs did transfers get?

Almost all the transfers got biglaw (if they wanted it). I'm not too sure what some other posts are talking about in re to transfers not doing well at OCI.
