As a note, Beirne Maynard and Parsons no longer exists. I think most of the partners who were there went to Akerman.

FYI, the first 100 largest firms list is very outdated -- many of the firms on there have are defunct/merged. And the second list is missing the many out-of-state firms that have come in (esp to Houston) and taken big chunks out of local shops like BB, V&E, and NRF.

Yeah, these aren't all inclusive. Just some stuff online for quick reference, I went ahead and removed the "Texas Lawyers" list....it is too outdated to be useful. Any suggestions on where to find a better list?

Still a little outdated by like ~2 ish years but I like this lists a lot. Breaks it down by specific office numbers as well.

Some firms have gotten a lot bigger since, others have come in, but I think it's mostly accurate.

Vault is just not helpful for Texas.

No one is really choosing between V&E/BB and Susman - they are completely different beasts.

Check out Chambers and Partners for practice group rankings:

It's not perfect, but it's so much better than Vault.

Here's their Corporate/M&A list; you should check whatever you're interested in

Does anyone know when law review/write-on results come out? Don't want to apply broadly until I know.

That is based solely on your school and every school is different. It is probably on the instructions....

If you're at UT, should be first week of July and presumably before the OCI bid date deadline. TLR will make offers first, then other journals follow a couple days later.

Tagging to potentially offer advice, but mostly for the egregious abuse of the anonymous posting feature.

Is anyone else here doing UT's New York Job Fair? I applied and got 5 interviews but I'm looking at the cost of flights and hotels and wondering if it's better to just wait for OCI and bid there.

UT Grad who did the NY Job Fair. Definitely think its worth it if you have any interest in New York. Not much competition compared to Regular OCI (only ~40 students attended my year). I got 7 interviews and landed 3 callbacks with around median grades. Welcome to PM me if you want specifics regarding various firms.

Yeah I think it's definitely worth it if you have any interest at all in NY and probably worth it even if you don't just to get the pre-OCI experience.

Need more information on your GPA and offices of some of these firms (a few of them interview for more than one).

Edit: what I mean is right now you are all over the board. Dallas, California, Houston, New York.

Where are you actually trying to work and what your GPA will be helpful.

Just wondering if you'd be able to give the relative desirability amongst students/how high one needs to bid certain firms to get them via lottery. I have a fair sense of GPA requirements and I have a fair sense on which ones of these will be unlikely but I'd like to interview at them if I can all the same. I've specified most of the ones that have multiple slots in OCI. (I didn't specify firms like Norton Rose & Jones Day because they just have one entry for all offices vs. firms like Sidley who has a dedicated Dallas/Houston/NYC/etc.)

Any advice for OOS UT student - 3.54 gpa. Assuming I should target Houston? What would be a safe top 5-10 firms?

Do the NYC job fair. Target the offices with the largest class sizes (check NALP). Mass mail your ass off.

That's not saying your GPA is bad. It's good. But no one is safe.
