Re: Fordham Law EIW 2017
Ranking: A little below median, IP Journal, and a background in biology and strong undergraduate grades (Almost all A's in science classes).
Interests: Patent Prosecution and/or litigation in life sciences & biotech (will probably start doing a masters spring semester on a part time basis).
Bid List:
1. Fish & Richardson.
2. Desmarais
3. Mayer Brown
4. Amster, Rothstein & Ebenstein
5. Jones Day (Wasted bid no realizing it was the same day as a PLIP interview).
6. Haug (Same issue as Jones Day).
7. Cooper & Dunham
Got interviews with all of the above except Jones Day and Haug (because of the aforementioned conflict).
Didn't realize Fitzpatrick Cella was interviewing for OCI because the firm list for OCI came out after I had already done my PLIP bids so I'm interviewing with them in Chicago. Didn't get Baker Botts for PLIP so I didn't bid on them for OCI. No real interest in Big Law and substandard 1L grades so I didn't feel the need to bid on any non-patent only schedules. Overall pretty happy with having 5 OCI interviews all for firms I would (seemingly) enjoy working for. Considering my sub-par 1L grades this was probably the best possible outcome. We'll see how it goes from here for callbacks and offers. Based on everyone else I've talked to my bid list is pretty bizarre, but I also am pretty much certain I want to do patent litigation, and I'm pretty certain the big law environment isn't for me.
Edit: Forgot to mention journal.

Great advice. Did you have any luck reaching out to NALP recruitment contacts at these firms when you don't have a more direct connection to contact? And the interviews--were they at the firms' offices or squeezed in during EIW?Anonymous User wrote:Rising 3L finishing an SA now. You should be emailing any contacts you made the past year at firms that you either (1) didn't bid on or (2) didn't get an interview with, and seeing if they could squeeze you in. I went from 18 interviews to 24 or 27 this way, with one of these back-channel interviews leading to an offer (not the firm I am at). This should be done ASAP, as space is limited.Anonymous User wrote:Any more Fordham feedback? Anyone contacting firms they didn't get interviews with? Trying to figure out a tactful way to beg for a pre-OCI interview.

Hey I wonder who you all are but guess I will give a data point too:
Top 25%, no journal, no competition teams, 5+ years of work experience, 10 interviews.
To future EIW bidders reading this post: I think journals and moot court really make a difference (I know someone with a similar grade as mine did much much better).
Do sign up for mock interviews organized by CPC because the interviewers are fordham alums from law firms -- you can make a connection there!

Contacts are better for obvious reasons, but recruiting can work too. Interviews were always at OCI. At this point, since they are already coming and OCI is in a week or two, its easier for them to do it at school.Anonymous User wrote:Great advice. How is everyone faring with opt-in? I got 2 more interviews today thru opt-in. Surprised, as both with top firms (meaning I'm surprised anyone would cancel an interview with them). Thoughts?

Also 2 opt-ins. Do we know if this is totally random or if the firms pick alternates?Anonymous User wrote:How is everyone faring with opt-in? I got 2 more interviews today thru opt-in. Surprised, as both with top firms (meaning I'm surprised anyone would cancel an interview with them). Thoughts?

According to OCI memo, it could be either.

Re: Fordham Law EIW 2017
I ended up getting 4 more interviews via opt-in which brings me up to 17 total. Plus an interview by reaching out to a mock interview partner, plus one from mass mailing. Up to 19 total interviews which is making me pretty comfortable.Anonymous User wrote:How is everyone faring with opt-in? I got 2 more interviews today thru opt-in. I've heard that a couple of the smaller firms have given out callbacks but I haven't gotten any yet.Anonymous User wrote:Anonymous User wrote:Too early to tell! Unless people have callbacks already...j99 wrote:thoughts??

I heard some people heard back from Milbank this morning. I haven't heard back anything yet - interviewing at big firms only.
