From experience the general indicators of getting a first round offer and not being an alternate is your references being checked (either before or immediately after you are designated a finalist). I have known people who were finalist both who got offers and those who never had their references checked and never received an offer. If you put willing to go anywhere you may stay in the running longer. Because for example if you only ranked five locations and a list is made up of all the candidates that OCIJ would like to give offers and you come near the bottom or middle of that list and all of the locations you choose have already been assigned then there is no chance an offer can be made to you. If you said you would go anywhere they can place you wherever this is an opening. Hope this helps and good luck to everyone the waiting can be hard with OCIJ since there are so many offers and the chance people decline.Anonymous User wrote:I'm in the same boat. I've been trying to ask around, but I can't find much out. If you (or anyone else) figures this out, please let me know. And good luck!Anonymous User wrote:Do we know the likelihood of getting an offer as an OCIJ finalist? I know they include alternates as finalists but I have no sense of how many alternates they would have for 97 spots (or how likely it is to get an offer even if you are an alternate)...

Re: DOJ Honors Program 2017-18
why does it feel like there are so many finalist designations across many offices and like no offers? (CRT excluded)
we've heard of 1 torts offer, 1 or 2(?) EOIR offers, 1 OIl DC, one CRM offer and thats it. what is going onnnnnnnnnn

All references checked via email form on Oct. 31 which were due on Nov. 7.
Finalist Designation Nov. 14 (or that is when I first noticed the change-- not 100 percent sure when it was changed)
No offer as of today Nov. 16.

Looks like we have four Commercial Litigation finalists. Anyone know how/when we'll hear about offers?

Is anyone an EOIR-OGC finalist yet? Is there any sense of what chances are of being offered the job if someone has been named a finalist for that subdivision specifically? Also if someone has been named a finalist, have their references been checked already?
