fwiw I've heard of an NYC offer (off this board)

How does one find out whether one is designated a finalist (or an alternate) for a specific position? I have not been able to find any information about that on Avue.

Make sure you're logging into the DOJ Honors-specific Avue page and not the general one. If you're on the right page, it should be the first thing you see when you log in, under Application Status. I think mine used to say "Selected for Interview" or something like that before it changed to Finalist, so if it still says that, you haven't been made a Finalist. And there's no way to know if you're an alternate or a first-round pick - both fall into the category of Finalist.

My status says "Offer Issued." I interviewed with two components and received an offer for one and am now trying to determine what my status is for the other.

There's no method. It's all completely random and slow. One slot at a time, doesn't matter the court.
San Francisco made me an offer two weeks ago. It was my first choice. I agree, I'm not sure how they do the matching. I've heard lots of different things.

If we haven't heard one way or the other from OGC or OCAHO in the EOIR, is it safe to assume at this point that we're alternates? Does anybody know how many alternates they tend to select?

I think it's safe to assume that if anyone that hasn't received an offer yet is an alternate. (I'm including myself in that.)

yeah, also assuming that I'm an alternate for OCAHO at this point. Pretty bummed.

Conventional wisdom is that DOJ will only make you one offer. Someone posted about getting two offers a few weeks ago, but if you haven't been contacted by the "other" component at this point, it is safe to assume you aren't getting an offer from them.

FWIW, I also interviewed with two different components, was offered one (and accepted), and now the non-offering branch doesn't show up at all on my Avue status page.

I was the Anon who got two offers. I was a finalist for three components. Once my status changed to "offer issued" all my components disappeared, so I have no idea where I stand/stood with that third finalist component. I don't think there is any way of knowing. Assuming Deana's advice applies to this round too: "You already know who designated you as a finalist."

^^but I would agree with the above: I assume I am/was an alternate with that other component I never heard from.

Is anyone comfortable sharing that they have turned down, or that they plan to turn down, an OCIJ offer?

(And if so, which court?)

I was just thinking the same thing. My references were also checked awhile ago and it worries me that the slow march of offers has stopped. But it would also worry me if the train kept going and I wasn't on it...I'm just not going to be happy until I hear lol

As I said above, I have a strong suspicion that round 1 is already over. Most of those offers that I've heard of have until just before Christmas to get back to DOJ - I think we'll see more offers later this month as a result.

Looks like someone asked on the Avue board if first round offers have all been made for OCIJ. Hopefully we'll get an answer!

If you're an HR person that needs to fill these positions, do you *want* people knowing that they're #2?

Looking at past years' threads, she and others in HR have given many people frank answers about this.

From Deanna on Avue:

"As far as I can tell from the numbers, they are still coming out. OCIJ has a LOT of positions to fill."

Has anyone heard back on acceptance into DoJ Honors ? Last year they started sending out acceptance notices on November 21. This year, they don't have an exact day noted, only "late November." It's getting a little late, I'm hoping they sent out at least some notices before 2018.

I'm confused by what you mean. "Heard back on acceptance?" Hope you aren't asking if anybody has received an offer because, yeah, what he/she said ^^
