Re: UVA Law OGI 2017
My OGI experience last year, given to warn those with below-median grades to not go into OGI anticipating an offer:
GPA: around a 3.2
Preparation: I went to weekly practice interviews with Career Services over the summer; followed their advice on what geographic regions and bands to bid on; had my resume, cover letter, and bid list proofread by multiple people at Career Services; spent hours researching each firm I interviewed with
Number of preselects: less than 3
Number of lottery interviews: less than 20
Number of callbacks: ZERO from OGI, 1 from resume collect, 1 from mass mailing hundreds of firms
Number of offers: 0 (struck out)
Looking back on my experience, I wish UVA would scrap the pointless lottery interviews completely and make the system 100% preselect. If you're going to screw over the bottom third of the class so that the top-GPA students can be inundated with even more opportunities, you might as well go all the way.

Re: UVA Law OGI 2017
To offer a more optimistic anecdote than above...I also had around a 3.2 when I went through OGIs:
-I had about 23 screeners (can't remember how many preselect, but a handful)
-I got about 15 callbacks
-I went on 8 callbacks and got 7 offers
-I targeted NYC, my home market, and a couple markets I had ties to/interest in
-never did any mock interviews
-Career services never checked my bid list
I was nervous going into OGI so I mass mailed a bunch of firms that I didn't bid on--I eventually heard back from a few of them in late September, but I had already made my choice by then. That is to say that mass mailing seems pointless, but it eventually can work--just takes some time
I do agree with the above poster that you should not go into OGI anticipating an offer. I spent my 1L summer networking with UVA alumni, and I got my resume passed along to higher ups a few times.
The sky is not falling but do what you need to do to prepare.

I also had a 3.2 for OGI and got about 4 callbacks, then 1 offer. I was targeting the southeast and didn't bid NY. Didn't use career services at all.

Thank you all for sharing your stories, especially those of you below/around median. As someone in a similar situation, I find that it's hard to candidly ask about these outcomes due to the embarrassment of having to admit that I have below median grades.

Re: UVA Law OGI 2017
In looking at the OP, aren't the dates a bit off? I just went on symplicity to check this, and of course OGI is no longer visible, but I thought I remembered it saying the preselect round goes until July 22nd. Am I way off on that? I can't imagine firms doing their application reviews and preselects in the manner of a couple days. Maybe that date is just left off of the OP, but can anyone confirm my memory isn't disgustingly off?

Preselection is from the 11th to the 19th, so the OP is wrong. 22nd is the day that we get the big reveal, but the due date for preselects is today.UVA2B wrote:In looking at the OP, aren't the dates a bit off? How'd everyone do with preselects?
I managed 19 preselects, 9 alternates...let the mayhem begin

3.65 VLR. 33 preselects, 1 alternate. I declinded a lot of preselects because of pre-OGI offer.

I'm taking a pre-OCI offer, declined all my preselects so there should be a lot freed up. Good luck everyone.

Re: UVA Law OGI 2017
One thing that I don't think career services provided much info on is the effect law review has on your outcomes. For reference, I have a gpa well north of yours but no VLR, but I only got about 20 preselects (albeit in DC, maybe we bid different cities). Obviously very anecdotal, and KD just warned us of this! But I thought I'd throw out my anecdote, since we don't have much else.Anonymous User wrote:3.65 VLR. 33 preselects, 1 alternate. I declinded a lot of preselects because of pre-OGI offer.
