Any idea what top 10%, 20%, 50% looks like for Penn grades, assuming a scale that is A=4.0, A-=3.7, B+=3.3, B=3, B-=2.7 ?

50% is around a 3.2.

It should be a 3.3 or a tinch higher.

The median grade in each of the 7 classes is a 3.3. It might be higher when factoring in electives and such, but that requires some more statistical thinking not worth going into.

Just look at OCI spreadsheet, not an exact science but will give you "ballpark" numbers

And remember that that is a cumulative total. So there are likely people who outperformed the donut, but also people who underperformed the donut. Some of the firms have a preferred GPA listed... could help ballpark there too.

OP here. Thanks for the responses - definitely looking to the spreadsheet for guidance, and also knowing it isn't perfect. I really wanted to know more of any firms with a hard GPA floor below which they won't go.

Anyone have any idea when results from the writing competition are typically released? How much does placement on LR or another prestigious journal impact chances? Thanks

Just got an email from Dean Monroe saying that they will be released via email on July 21 at 6PM. I'm a fellow rising 2L, but I think that it only helps but can't really hurt (unless you're interviewing with an old school partner or are very lit focused).
