Honigman no offered a few summers this year. Many partners have left in recent years. One of the big Detroit papers wrote an article on it.

2016 had a 100% offer rate as well.

Don't go to Michigan, but I'm friends with a summer there. Friend told me the firm is having a lot of money problems and hired too many SAs this year.

Aggressively raising salary was probably a dumb move. Why did they do that? JD and Foley were the only ones higher afaik, and they aren't hiring that many. Just seems misguided in such a low COL market. Now they'll struggle a bit and cheap out elsewhere as a result, in all likelihood.

They no-offer a bunch of SAs every year. You should read up on it if you are considering them. They are probably one of the worst firms for no-offering summers in the country.
Definetly not true. I don't know specifics about the reasons for the no offers this year but I've heard there were reasons for each no offer-- no one was blindsided.

Seems unlikely that no one was blindsided or that there were reasons, beyond the firm's financials, for no offers. It's more plausible that they hired too many SAs and raised salaries too high for Detroit, and the firm couldn't sustain such expedited growth.

Raising salary aggressively above the market while no-offering multiple summers in the same year seems unlikely to be a coincidence... anyone have any actual insight, though?

I have some inside insight. I got the impression that the no offers were due to work product issues and poor reviews not financial issues/hiring too many SA issues.

This is simply not true. 2015 every SA got an offer.
Every Summer in 2016 was offered as well, and Honigman also hired an extra associate through 3L OCI.

Sorry, I'm calling BS. I had a CB with Honigman last year and Honigman is extremely grade selective and picks the best crop with Michigan ties. It has to be financial - they offer outstanding candidates to be completely frank.

*** I will add that I do not know that Honigman even no offered multiple people. If they no offered like one, I could see a bad fit.
