How do we feel about contacting particular offices ie. we interviewed with NY and not DC, dinged from NY, now want to reach out to DC?

Assuming you're the same Anon: yes, for real. It's 11pm Tuesday night and you have zero callbacks. Obviously not all firms do same-day CBs, but I'd estimate at least one-third of them do. It doesn't mean you're screwed, but once you finish your screeners tomorrow, you should be mass-mailing as a backup.

Can a bunch of CBs roll in over the next week? Sure. Can none roll in? Sure. Can a few roll in and you don't convert any of them to an offer? Sure. Why wait until it's too late? You should be doing everything possible to get interviews with as many firms as possible until you get an offer.

Most firms will have you book travel through their people (usually LawyersTravel or some similar company). If you are booking yourself, I would book a regular coach seat. I'm assuming this is talking about a seat upgrade rather than taking an Acela vs. regular train which firms will often do because of how much time it saves. In the end, the firm probably won't care, but they might and I wouldn't risk that.
