I prefer: "I am out of the office with limited access to email. I will return on [date that is far enough out that partner will ask someone else]."

With younger associates I am comfortable with, in certain contexts I will use "sounds good" especially if there has been ongoing discussion about what we needed to do.

Just say "roger". That'll confuse them.
Why is "will do" obsequious?

You will understand if you ever work at a firm.Dcc617 wrote:Just say "roger". That'll confuse them.
Why is "will do" obsequious?
It's the most used response to getting your life fucked up for some period of time, knowing that you have no real recourse.

It would be pretty alpha if you responded like this twenty minutes after the email, so it's clear it's not an auto response.rpupkin wrote:I prefer: "I am out of the office with limited access to email. I will return on [date that is far enough out that partner will ask someone else]."

That's easy: repeat sending OOTO message until inquiries cease.notgreat wrote:Partner follows up next morning with new email. Subject:etarpupkin wrote:I prefer: "I am out of the office with limited access to email. I will return on [date that is far enough out that partner will ask someone else]."

Re: alternative to "will do" that aren't as obsequious
I realize this isn't a serious thread, but in case anyone reading this actually wants to know, as a senior associate, what I like to receive (and what I would send myself) are:
Will do
Sure
No problem
OK
I don't think any of those sound obsequious, and I'm grateful for the response that sounds polite and tells me all I need to know.
I do not like:
Sounds good
Sounds like a plan
Got it
On it
The first two sound like you're giving me your view on the task, as though you're only doing it because you approve of it. The latter two are just too abrupt and sound like you're annoyed to be asked.
