Re: Summer Associate Class of 2017
Most people will probably say something along the lines of stick to water or tea when you are working or at lunch; don't binge drink super often, and drink less beer when you do go out; don't overload on bread or super carb-heavy entrees/desserts every single day; etc.Gray wrote:relatedly, best ways to not gain 10 lbs this summer?Anonymous User wrote:best summer lunch spots in midtown go
Personally though, I think the single most important way to not gain weight is to be mindful of how much food you are consuming, the same way you might want to keep track of how much booze you're drinking when you go out. For me, I didn't want to limit what I could eat at lunches or dinners, so that meant that I basically never ate snacks at work (maybe some fruit at staff meetings), stuck to sparkling water instead of soda, and didn't eat a lot of drunk food on my way home from a night out. But that was just my experience based on what I knew I could do and still be happy with my choices.

What is the budget?Anonymous User wrote:best summer lunch spots in midtown go
ETA: just either get a Zagats or look and see what Michelin starred places are around.
Marea is pretty popular at my firm, but it's really whatever you want.

Been asked to last min proofread something. Seems like pointing out split infinitives is a good way to get no offered.

easy way to not gain is to cut back on drinking at events. nurse the same glass of beer (or vodka w/seltzer) throughout the event. you'll look weird if you don't order any drinks at all.

Yea. It's fine and nobody cares. I probably would get at least a soda or water, but nobody cares either way, assuming you don't get shitfaced and do something dumb.Gray wrote:FWIW this is not true. It's a well established fact that you can't become a go-to associate or eventual partner unless you know how to drink heavily but still hold your liquor. If you don't drink, you'll only last 3 years and have low hours.sublime wrote:Yea. It's fine and nobody cares. Yeah, I don't know where people got the impression that law firms care whether you drink or not, as some rule. What people care about is whether you are enjoyable to be around in social contexts. As frat-like as some firms may be, nobody's going to be sticking a beer hat on your head. Just be cool.
ETA: be normal and generally cool. That's the only social rule you need to follow. BE. NORMAL.

Idk about you guys but when I'm full time I'm gonna insist on tasting every "gin-and-tonic" a summer has to make sure they're not trying to commit fraud with soda water and lime.

Re: Summer Associate Class of 2017
I'm working in LA this summer. There are associates who basically dress like this....Hand wrote:pretty sure the rule is to unbutton at least 3 buttonsookoshi wrote:Yeah, no to tank tops, use v-necks if you about the undershirt showing. The rule I was taught (no idea if it's right) with dress shirts was to only leave the collar unbuttoned if it was a point or spread collar shirt, in which case even a crew neck undershirt was usually fully covered. With a button down collar however, I was taught to leave the top non-collar button unbuttoned as well. My solution was just to not wear button down collar shirts to work.axel.foley wrote:V neck undershirts will solve your problem. I would not go for a tank top (I assume you mean a wife beater) as that seems odd with business attire.JustMe83 wrote:What is the consensus on wearing a white tee under button down shirts? I always do this when buttoning up for a suit/tie, but I'm working at a business casual firm so the top button will usually be open, and I feel like it looks decidedly dorky and low class to have a white t collar popping out from under, say, a blue or lavender shirt. But at the same time I don't want to risk sweating through my button down and the tee gives some nice protection from that. Would wearing a white tank top instead work, or is that some sort of faux pas?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
