Intern Wardrobe for in house

Post by Anonymous User » Sat Mar 25, 2017 9:29 am

I was just offered an in house position in TN. What is the typical wardrobe for in house lawyers?

Wear a suit the first day and then see what the other attorneys are wearing. If business casual, then go with that.

I spent part of last summer in-house and it was actually business casual. Guys wore slacks/khakis, dress shirt and loafers. Actually wore an oxford a few times and no one cared. Not much help for women, sorry.

You should pose this question to someone at the company.

In my experience it varies by company too much to give a broad guess. You could work for a liberal tech company where you wear cargo shorts, flip flops, and a hoodie. Who knows.

Just in case you identify as female - I'd do a skirt suit with a blazer for the first day (and you can leave the blazer at your desk if it ends up being too dressy). After that you can probably veer towards business casual (sheath dresses, blouse with skirt/slacks, flats) but you'll get a good sense for what other people in the office are wearing when you get there. Maybe it'll be more of a jeans/blouse kind of place.

Just ask HR. I wore a suit my first day and got laughed at by the attorneys because everyone wears whatever they want. I frequently wear jeans and a t-shirt now.

Wearing shorts and a tee shirt to work is easily one of the best things ever.
