Small class. I believe it has been 15-20 in the past. There's also a 1L but not sure which school.

going to skadden or cravath is not the height of ambition in the private sector

the top 1/4 of chicago students are not trying to go to those firms, they're more likely trying to get away from them and consider them fallbacks
Debatable but in any case nonresponsive, since the observation you were replying to was about the uchicago student body in general.
It speaks to self selection.

Chicago could send 10+ students to each of the "V5," except Wachtell, just as Columbia sends 20+, proportional to class size at those two schools. The fact that they don't is not a reflection of the weakness of the placement power of the school into that market. It's possible that some firms give proportionally more offers to Columbia students, but that's not driving the gulf between the number of students that go to those firms from columbia and harvard vis a vis chicago and stanford.

I can make a very compelling case that Chicago offers you the best odds of attaining a NY V10/Deb/PW of any school other than Y and S. It's very much self selection when Chi appears to do poorly, there are consistently ~40 students in any given Chi class who actually want NY and something like 35 of those have V10/Deb/PW options.

Whether people do or should want to work at a NY V10/Deb/PW is another issue.

Saw some talk of this in another thread. What is going on there?

Dechert NY: total 16

(2) Northwestern
(4) Cornell
(2) Fordham
(1) Emory
(1) Hofstra
(1) Pace

Down from previous years as well, I believe. Classes in the past two years were 20+. Curious as to why Dechert has culled it summer program.

The Ropes NY demographic makeup seem surprising. More than half are Harvard/Columbia/NYU and even a couple Yale. I didn't buy the whole "NY is now our focus and we're becoming a corporate heavyweight there" pitch when I was going through the process and turned down their offer. But now not so sure........

Curious as to thoughts on what the summer class says, if anything, about the direction of Ropes NY.............

UChicago destroys NY. Some years it might be harder if more of the class targets NY (which tends to be the case when students become risk adverse to the non-NY markets), but generally it seems that most students at UChicago do not want NY for whatever reason, and so median+ at Chicago puts you in play for pretty much any NY firm aside from Wachtell.

Kind of surprised about K&E Chicago results though (only 6 UChicago students)

Is this gonna turn into our general thread to talk summer questions, experiences, Aqua Girl stories, etc.? Previous years have had quite active ones.

Why are you surprised by the K&E Chicago results? It's in line with the last several years.

Well, from these numbers, it looks like you need to be around the top 15% at H/S and top 5% anywhere else. Since Y doesn't rank, just interview well?

You say this, but this year a few people I personally know at UChicago who bid exclusively NY with median or better grade struck out of OCI. So I don't know what happened there--whether this is just this year or if the rhetoric is not all that accurate.

Jenner DC is uber prestigious appellate work. Its what Munger's new DC office was built from (Verrilli was at Jenner prior to SG, same as the other founders). Jenner NY and Chicago are great too, but the DC office traditionally has an all star cast.

Not impact lit. They had 6 cases at the Supreme Court last year.
The DC office is very liberal and has a great reputation at YLS for students who ultimately want to end up in academia or public service
