Associate Salaries in Detroit
Does anyone know the starting Detroit associate salaries for:
Honigman
Miller Canfield
Dickinson Wright
Dykema
Clark Hill
Pepper Hamilton
Bodman
Warner Norcross
Varnum
Kerr Russel
I understand salaries have changed with New York going up to 180k so the NALP data may not be accurate.

Interested also. Also, anyone have an experience lateraling to MI firms? Thinking of doing so in the next few years (MI is home state and wife's family is there.)

Honigman - 105-120k (though I've heard they are at 125-130 now)
Miller Canfield (?) no response during mass mail so idk
Dickinson Wright - ~110k
Dykema - ~110-115k
Clark Hill - ~110k
Pepper Hamilton - probably 140 if they pay 160-180 in major markets
Bodman - 105k
Warner Norcross - 110k-120k
Varnum - 110k-120k
Kerr Russel (?) didn't talk to them during Mass mail/oci so no clue.
Also to add, these I know are where they are at:
Foley - 160k as of next month
Jones Day: 160k
Gunderson Dettmer (ann arbor) - 180k (no associates as of last year.)
Currently a first year at one of the above listed firms so I'm happy to answer questions you may have.

Do you guys get a decent amount of laterals from larger firms/markets? If so, what credentials do these folks have?Anonymous User wrote:

Not speaking specifically to my firm, but from what I've seen in the area generally, laterals are mostly looks like those who have connections in the city and/or are coming for a specific reason. Those from outside the city tend to come from BigLaw in Chicago/NY/LA/Boston/DC type of cities but there are some from other areas as well.RaceJudicata wrote:Do you guys get a decent amount of laterals from larger firms/markets? I think it's practice specific. I have friends who work there who love it, and I know people who left who hated it - pretty much what you get at any law firm. Really it's all about the people. I've never met anyone from there which I hate so I can't say for certain.Anonymous User wrote:Honigman hours and environment that much worse? All groups or just PE/M&A?

But to be honest I'd be surprised if they raised from a base of 110 to a base of 150. I remember in my interview them talking about their pay and then everyone if you're still around will make partner by year 5. Some of it just didn't sit right with me. From what I gathered with a friend who use to work there, the 150k mark on the website was only hit by an associate or two who brought in their own client w/o a partner as a lead, so that might be a far fetched dream getting that first year, but who knowsFirst full calendar year: $110,000 - $150,000
Second full calendar year: $120,000 - $180,000
Third full calendar year: $150,000 - $200,000
Fourth full calendar year: $150,000 - $240,000

It's definitely at least 125+5 for 2016 associates. Word in the grapevine is that it jumped again in September to match Cravath.Anonymous User wrote:You could be right, this is what they have on their website:Anonymous User wrote:Anonymous User wrote:Anonymous User wrote:Does anyone know the starting Detroit associate salaries for:

Re: Associate Salaries in Detroit
Match cravath scale or cravath values? That'd be insane for them to go from 110 to 180 base w/in a year. Skeptical seeing as they haven't updated their website to reflect this and their "highest paying Detroit firm" pitch seemed to be a calling card for them during OCIAnonymous User wrote:It's definitely at least 125+5 for 2016 associates. I mean I'm going to be an SA there this summer and I haven't heard anything about a raise... I don't know if they would tell us but just my 2 cents.

Re: Associate Salaries in Detroit
Summer Associates actually heard before I did as an incoming 1st year (while I was studying for the bar). Also, just knowing the culture at H I'm skeptical it went to 150 base rather than the range of say 120-150 especially given the recent attrition/turnover they've seen in the past year or so.Anonymous User wrote:I mean I'm going to be an SA there this summer and I haven't heard anything about a raise... My close friend is an incoming associate. Base for 1st year is 150k. Are you looking for paystubs or offer letter as evidence?

Haven't posted here yet, incoming SA at a firm in MI.
This Honigman raise has been an illusive topic since like September. I don't know what to think. It wasn't mentioned in their SA recruitment. If it was happening, I think it should of been because it would have helped H be a LOT more competitive compared to national firms in MI. Just my two cents FWIW.

Re: Associate Salaries in Detroit
Jones day is black box; I've heard from a classmate Foley has a base bonus of 5-10% of salary if you hit the minimum hours (I think 1900-1950) then bonus upward of 20-40% of salary, so for a first year making 160k that's a bonus from 8k to 64k, based on other hourly thresholds. Not sure about the other Detroit firms thoughAnonymous User wrote:Does anyone have info on what associate bonuses look like in Detroit?
