What's the harm in trying? You might as well. The public rumor is that Cordray is stepping down in September, which would mean it may be possible that a new Director is confirmed by the time you would receive an offer. Even if someone steps in for Cordray in the interim and you were to get an offer under the Interim Director, it seems highly unlikely that your job would be axed after the Senate confirmed Director takes over. Also, at worst, Republicans would turn the Bureau into a bi-partisan commission; it is highly unlikely that the entire agency would be axed. In other words, I think it's totally fair game as far as Honors Programs go. I think being a political target could be a consideration if you were deciding between CFPB and other Honors Programs, but it's still a prestigious job that pays well.

I just recall a couple of years back that the DOL Honors cohort got rescinded in like March of their 3L year. I feel like the CFPB, more than most other agencies, is likely to get yanked around like this?
