If you are going to put Farella on this list, Shartsis deserves a space on this list as well.

As a place to work? Or in terms of selectivity/prestige?

Re: San Francisco Litigation Firm Tiers?
An extremely rough sketch for litigation (the transactional side would look totally different)
Keker, Munger
Gibson, Quinn, MoFo
Orrick, Latham, Kirkland, Covington, A&P
Most of the others**

Re: San Francisco Litigation Firm Tiers?
To add just a bit more nuance. This will obviously depend on your practice area preferences. But I’d go:
T1:
Keker
Munger
Altshuler
Durie
^^ These firms basically require top grades and clerkship.
T2:
Boies
Gibson (esp. for antitrust)
Latham (esp. for antitrust)
Weil (for patent work)
Orrick (for white collar and appellate)
Covington (esp. for patent work)
Quinn
T3:
MoFo
The SV litigation departments of the major NY firms.
The SV litigation departments of the major SV firms.
On the plaintiff side, there are some fun options in/around SF. Look at Edelson. Tensegrity also does good work, mainly IP. Also, Lieff Cabraser has a big office here.
