i work for a big law screamer who makes all the assistants/clerks cry at least once. Can't even count how many staff and associates this partner cycled through. Obviously this partner's associates, including me, get screamed at, condescended to, and insulted on a regular basis.

Is there such thing as a "kind/nice partner"?

yeah same. I've lucked out by working with some great partners at my current firm but I've also actively avoided the shitty ones. Helps that the main guy I work with is the managing partner for the office and other shitty partners don't really want to get in a pissing contest with him

Whether it was normal as a stubbie to run certain kinds of deals.

Would have loved to know what he means by "running the deal." He's likely just delusional about how important his responsibilities are.

Making closing binders and signature pages is where the real power is.

this has been my task since starting; it's the worst. That said, running a deal is cool if you know what you're doing - source, I was a lower middle market IBanker doing M&A pre-law school.

I "ran" a super small deal early on. It had nothing to do with my abilities (which mostly consist of getting other attorneys on my deal teams to slowly start saying bro more) but because I happened to be in the office on a certain night and the partner could bill me out low. You either (i) have an inflated idea of your importance or (ii) are going to fuck a lot things up because you don't have any idea what you're doing and the people above you are out of touch enough to not realize what you should even know how to do. Please annoy the fuck out of your associate mentors to review and explain all the things you don't even know you're doing wrong (srs).

Any other fellow f-ups want to share whether they got a bonus?

I got a small one and I'm happy about it. $1500 Tho I'm not sure what to compare it against?? I am more worried about how I'm doing and whether this is a good/bad reflection on my work.

Two main partners work in my group.

First is a workaholic, who insists on blowing past billing hours and spending "free time" recruiting clients.

Second gets to the office at 6AM, leaves at 3PM, is very detail-oriented/anal (and efficient billing-wise as a machine), but generally low key in conversations and doesn't take his work home on weekends.

I've tried hard to get most of my assignments from the second one.

Biglaw? $1500 sounds like a pretty loud and clear FU

I think that's the prorated stub bonus? Not sure because my firm didn't do one for stubs.

I love that a $1500 bonus can be considered a passive aggressive FU

That would mean a little more than a month of work. I get $5k as the prorated bonus. .

OP here.

I'm not in big law. Just a mid law stub. So it sounds like big law stub got 5k? Just wondering, thanks!

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
