You are assuming right. K&S as well as others you have not listed have not raised at all for IP in ATL....

Genuine question: Have those Atlanta firms (or all firms for that matter) explicitly called out a higher IP-specific scale in the past?
And I assume "patent associates" means those that have passed the patent bar?

Yes, what has been the scale for the past several years is non-IP starts at 135-145 for those firms while IP first year salary was 160. The thing to note though is these firms did not move IP to 160 immediately last time the salaries changed. Believe the move took a year or two. I have heard a rumor that Alston IP people were explicitly told they were not getting "the IP bump." This leads me to believe none of these ATL based firms will move IP salaries anytime soon.

Re: NY GOES TO 180k! IT HAPPENED!!!! (CovingTTTon does a 180! Holder wept.)
It's not a rumor. It was in the memo on ATL that the bump was effective as to the non-patent-bar salary scales. I guess that's not an explicit statement that they won't get it soon, but it's close.Anonymous User wrote:Anonymous User wrote:Genuine question: Have those Atlanta firms (or all firms for that matter) explicitly called out a higher IP-specific scale in the past?

Fish and Finnegan have both moved Atlanta IP starting salaries to 180.
IP associates are rightfully annoyed in Atlanta that the locals are giving them the shaft. Firm wide people are getting $20k+ raises and you tell IP they get nothing? Bush league. These practice groups should be ashamed.

Wasn't Atlanta an outlier insofar as it paid IP associates more than their non-IP colleagues?Anonymous User wrote:Fish and Finnegan have both moved Atlanta IP starting salaries to 180.

I don't know how relevant that is. I suppose it depends on what you are trying to rationalize: higher IP pay/ the IP bump, or lower overall associate pay / the lower ATL market.kcdc1 wrote: Wasn't Atlanta an outlier insofar as it paid IP associates more than their non-IP colleagues?
In any event, IP hiring is atrocious right now in Atlanta, qualified candidates are like unicorns and you now have the F firms paying the $180 scale (or some variation thereof) in Atlanta. You have also had the major ATL firms admit that all Atlanta associates deserve a bump (with the exception of the IP groups). This is just going to make recruiting even more challenging as people with any brains decide there are plenty of non-NYC options that pay above the ATL market rate where the IP practice groups are seemingly admitting they can't or won't pay up.
The numbers provide even worse support, its not like you're raising the salaries of 200 associates in the ATL office with this move, you're raising the salaries of 10-20.

Can anyone speak to how long it took patent salaries in Atlanta to move after the last raise, in what, 2007? And, did those firms delay in order to do it somewhat covertly, or was there some other reason for the lag?Anonymous User wrote:Anonymous User wrote:Genuine question: Have those Atlanta firms (or all firms for that matter) explicitly called out a higher IP-specific scale in the past?

Post 1st year rates are coming later. So it looks like it's modified Cravath with some top-end compression. But my guess is they wanted to get 1st year stuff out for OCI, albeit a bit late for some. Their email said increases for older class years will be forthcoming, so everyone will be getting me a raise, just not sure if it is a match or not.Desert Fox wrote:20k accross teh board isnt matchingAnonymous User wrote:Foley & Lardner matched, different user from above poster. I don't mind. earning 160 in a secondary market as a 1st year is pretty nice. Now earning 180 would be nice, i'm already going to be way over paid as is so i can't complain too much.Desert Fox wrote:20k accross teh board isnt matchingAnonymous User wrote:Foley & Lardner matched, different user from above poster. Might as well be for Foley. None of their non-major markets were on the 160 scale anyway.Desert Fox wrote:20k accross teh board isnt matchingAnonymous User wrote:Foley & Lardner matched, different user from above poster. Can confirm 20K increase across the board.
