To my knowledge, every newbie attorney in any setting has to do doc review (biglaw, midlaw, small law, shit law, etc).

The issue is that you don't want that to be the ONLY thing you do (aka as full time contractor gig)

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Some doc review is fine. It's easy, billable, mostly mindless work. It's also boring as shit. So for a breather for a couple of hours a day, or even for a few days in a row, it breaks up difficult stuff, but if you have to do it full time (even for just a few weeks) it is fucking awful. It's like doing dishes or laundry. Nobody really minds these tasks on an intermittent basis, but doing it alone for days or weeks on end would suuuuuuuuck.

Given this thread, I'm assuming anon was asking about doc review as a job.

Any specialization listed, or just looking for general apps?

Is it even worth applying to big firms 3L if we did government (fairly non-prestigious) both summers?

Median at CC, skipped EIP last fall.

Both are general apps but their offices seem to be corporate heavy.

Very unclear. But it can't hurt to apply.

Most of them require cover letters, and I already have a bunch of interviews to prep for in that same window.

It takes 30 minutes to write a cover letter. You don't have 30 minutes?

Any rising 3L interested in an entry-level litigation position at an environmental nonprofit in Chicago (to begin fall 2018)? PM me and I'll send you the info.

I have posted before. I was middle of T20, class of '15. When I tell you this has been a tough stretch that would be an understatement. Almost two years later, after nearly hundreds of no's, I have finally landed a yes.

I started my practice doing doc review (3 months) after not being to land a gig following graduation, then got an offer from a small firm that turned out to be complete shit. I left that job after 9 months and finally landed a great mid-size firm job. I can tell you guys that the first job is hardest to obtain. I would advise you to focus on your practice area bc that experience will open doors. Do not allow a bunch of no's to deter you from your goals. Many on this site are negative and pessimistic but try to remain driven. Do what is necessary to stay a float until you able to get your dream chance.

I actually turned down a big firm gig to take this current opportunity because I felt the firm culture was a great fit and the firm's practice is still complex. Keep at it guys. Best of luck to you.

New Mexico's 6th, 13th, and 3rd DAs offices are hiring. 6th is down 2 people, not a single person has applied.

Ads for 13th and 6th here: http://www.nmbar.org/NmbarDocs/PubRes/B ... -08-09.pdf

Only 2 people? Wow. I bet there's some good experience to be gained there.

Absolutely, know personally people that got hired this way in biglaw. Also, what do you lose.
