I did check with the registrar and because all the grades are not in yet they could not answer. . that is why I asked for a guesstimate.r6_philly wrote:If you go to Penn, go to registrar and look for yourself.Anonymous User wrote:I realize that this may be difficult to pinpoint. ConLaw, CrimLaw, and your admin elective are going to fit the standard curve.Anonymous User wrote:I did check with the registrar and because all the grades are not in yet they could not answer. . that is why I asked for a guesstimate.r6_philly wrote:If you go to Penn, go to registrar and look for yourself.Anonymous User wrote:I realize that this may be difficult to pinpoint. Your other elective is a big ???...you may be able to "guesstimate" based on how they graded past years.

Does anyone know how much, or how little, weight "honors" in LW carries for OCI?

Re: Where do I stand at Penn?
Ya ok three classes are graded on strict 1L curve which you have plenty of past grades to guestimate from. The last class may have a strict 1L curve too, even though past years show better distribution but these classes have more 2L/3Ls who are not graded on the same curve thereby may skew the distribution data. Bottom line is you can guestimate better by going to the registrar and look at the books. Don't roll your eyes until you understand, you are the one who couldn't figure out afterall.Anonymous User wrote:I did check with the registrar and because all the grades are not in yet they could not answer. . that is why I asked for a guesstimate.r6_philly wrote:If you go to Penn, go to registrar and look for yourself.Anonymous User wrote:I realize that this may be difficult to pinpoint. Depends on what you say about it, and what you else you got going on. It's a big positive, but then out of context can't really say how it will be weighed. I do think it carries more weight than a substantive grade.TLSNYC wrote:Does anyone know how much, or how little, weight "honors" in LW carries for OCI?

LW as in legal writing? Employers seriously consider it more than a substantive class?r6_philly wrote:Depends on what you say about it, and what you else you got going on. Yeah, when Penn starts grading LW it's going to be very interesting to see how firms react.HeavenWood wrote:It's also more directly relevant to the real legal world.r6_philly wrote:Less people have them.

Re: Where do I stand at Penn?
Anyone know if i come close to top third: A, B, A-, B, B+, A, B+, B+ One B and one B+ were only worth 3 credits, the rest are 4. It comes out to around 3.47 (I think). Thanks!

does anyone know what these cutoffs were?Anonymous User wrote:FWIW, I just graduated from Penn last month with a 3.57 and did NOT get latin honors (so not in top 25%). That said, I think the cutoffs get higher after 2L and 3L, so a 3.57 might be w/in top 25% for 1Ls.

FYI - Penn Honors for c/o 2017 for posterity:
summa cum laude - 6 people (need a 4.0+ or very close to it...like a 3.99)
Order of the Coif - 26 people (top 10% - 3.85 was enough - only data point I have)
magna cum laude - 36 people (top 15% - includes all of those in Order of the Coif)
cum laude - 37 people (3.5 was not enough according to one person)

Does the honors GPA calculation include all of your classes, or just lectures? Also would appreciate more data points if anyone has them!! Much appreciated
