How the hell did we go from 40+ to 22? What is going on at that office?!

Re: Philadelphia DA
I would guess that what it said on the website about hiring 25 people each year is general info and not exactly current and accurate. I was under the impression very few people were hired last year. So when people at the DA's office said that 13 additional people will be hired this year, it wasn't necessarily going to be 13 in addition to 25 - probably just 13 in addition to what they hired last time. We were all probably overestimating the number.Anonymous User wrote:How the hell did we go from 40+ to 22? What is going on at that office?!

Re: Philadelphia DA
The only hope we have left is if they mailed offers and they did not call. In reality, however, I think it is a sad day for all of us.

Re: Philadelphia DA
I've wasted 3+ months waiting for this office. I think I'm just gonna call Schuler tomorrow morning like the Anon a few posts before me and ask and get it over with. Though I truly believe that all offers have already gone out.

I called today and was told that I was on an alternate list. Anyone else on this list?

We already established that offers will be phone calls.

Re: Philadelphia DA
I assume its a list for people who were close and they are waiting to see if all 22 accept and if not they will take someone from that list. So...if youre on the list you may have another month long wait?

Really kicking myself for not calling before 5 pm now. Now I have another 16 hours of misery to deal with.

Re: Philadelphia DA
I don't think we established that offers are phone calls. I know someone that received an offer last year by mail and did not get a phone call. Although, Ms. Schuler did say they were calling for offers.

I'm in Philadelphia. No rejection letter, no call. Will call in the morning to check status.

Re: Philadelphia DA
22 is less than the already smallish amount of 2L interns they had over the summer. Outside of the few Appeals hires, it sounds like nobody outside of the summer interns had chance. That's a damn shame. I wonder where all this hype about a large incoming class came from.

I feel angry about the entire process. I do not think it is fair to hold a panel interview in October and then make people wait until the end of February to let them know their status, especially knowing that so few spots were available.

In an extreme employer's market where employees are a dime a dozen we can't be terribly choosy.

I understand the disappointment, but to be fair we knew about the process all along. I don't really understand how anyone can be angry.Anonymous User wrote:I feel angry about the entire process. Angry because we were supposed to hear at the beginning of December, then it was the beginning of January, then it beginning of February, then it was at the end of the first week of February then it was mid February . . . We did not know that the date would keep being pushed back.

Re: Philadelphia DA
You're absolutely allowed to feel angry. Sorry this one may not work out (if you got a letter, then I'm sorry that it did not work out.) I will also say that I understand how frustrating this was -- I was lucky and had my panel interview in early December at which time they were able to tell me I would not hear before late Jan or early Feb. So I only had the last couple weeks of wondering, and only having to endure that was excruciating. I think there has been a shift in the last couple years from their usual December hiring decisions; maybe not everyone had the right information, and maybe they were also a bit disorganized and had to push back their schedule. It's too bad.
Good luck!

The list is ranked I assume?

Re: Philadelphia DA
Yes she said the list is ranked but she would not tell me precisely where I was on the wait list. There are about 10 candidates on the list. People with offers have 1 week to respond. She said to call back in two weeks. With the way the economy is, I am not getting my hopes up.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
