It's that time of year and things seem much better than 2010.

Duke self reported 2L data - V10=10%, V25=25%, V50=35%, V100=55%, NALP=65%

note: this doesn't include students doing other prestigious stuff that isn't firm related like banking, consulting, DOJ, etc.

Adding other Schools in as percentage of whole class:

Chicago:
V5 07.1%
V10 15.7%
V20 31.9%
V30 38.1%
V50 51.9%
V100 63.3%
NLJ250 69.0%

Columbia:
V10 15.15%
V25 36.21%
V50 53.05%
V100 62.31%
NALP 65.68%

Duke:
V10=10%
V25=25%
V50=35%
V100=55%
NALP=65%

correct me if I'm wrong but isn't this way better than people were thinking?

(granted one school, too small sample, etc...maybe duke just rocked it.)

This looks exactly the same as the data I compiled from the handout I received at ASW. The V10 percentage is slightly higher (think 1%+).

Keep in mind that the source of this information does not account for split-summers. Thus, some of the Vault positions listed could have went to the same person, lowering these actually percentages slightly.

There are at least two people with too much time on their hands. Still, congrats to the Class of 2012!

Columbia (assuming 400 students do early interview program)

v10=18%, v25=43%, v50=63%, v100=74%. NALP=~78%

note: this doesn't include consulting/banking/boutique litigation firms/clerkships, etc.

No. '07 was 80%+ at Duke. Remember, the NLJ stats are post-grad, not 2L. Clerkships, govt, etc.

Also, V10s are hiring a lot now. They've bounced back.

If this is true I'd just like it to last like a year or two longer so that I can get in the door... then the world can end again

where did you get this data?

I go to CLS and the only number we were given was the 78%.

I posted the Columbia numbers above, and for the sake of quelling the flames I will shed the anonymity. i honestly have no reason to make this crap up, and if you look through my post history you will not find a single incidence of flaming.

people seemed to show interest in these figures, so I went through my packet from career services and added up the numbers row by row. if you think it's BS that's your opinion, but unless you have some basis for it don't go tarnishing potentially useful threads such as this one with your cynicism and doubt.

that being said, i *presumed* 400 participants in EIP. these figures are for 2L SA starting this May, NOT for 3Ls receiving offers--that figure is undoubtedly lower. also, someone questioned my blurb about clerkships not being included--i have no idea how may 2Ls--if any--do clerkships. I simply wanted to emphasize that no employment figures except those from law firms (from the vault and NALP lists) are included in my calculations. if another CLS student comes across this post they can probably verify my math, i guarantee it is accurate to within 1-2% in all fields.

again, i did it the hard way and literally added up the "accepted offers from XXX" column line by line using the most recent Vault rankings. im glad however that you can confirm the 78%

Roughly how many students at Columbia don't do EIP?

your guess is as good as mine... as far as i know we aren't provided with this info (but i havent really searched for it so maybe someone can enlighten us both).

the entering class was 397 i think for the year before me (now 2Ls). i know that some transfer to HYS (i personally know someone who transferred out of CLS last year) and i also know that a handful of students drop out for personal reasons. out of those that remain there are some who dont do EIP, but you also need to account for the transfer students who are accepted from other schools... i've heard that around 60-70 are admitted each year. 400 was my denominator but again, that's just my personal speculation. should give u a rough estimate of the job prospects for cls students, even if its not pinpoint

There's no 2L headcount available from Columbia? The reason I ask is it could make a big difference. If you throw another 50 people on there, your total is 69.33%.

In 2007, literally every single Columbia person with the exception of drooling mouthbreathers who can't hold a conversation for 5 minutes got a SA job. 80% at Columbia is embarrassingly low and translates to almost 100 CLS students without SAs.

Lots of firms aren't part of the NALP, so if you're looking at all SAs things are presumably even better.

I don't get the 0Ls crying flame at the numbers. See: http://lawfirmaddict.blogspot.com/2006/ ... ement.html

63% v25 placement down to 45% for CLS. 33% down to 25% for Duke. Big hits.

It's not the "30% biglaw" stuff XOXO was saying, but that was always a flame.

I'd imagine very few CLS students go to non-NALP firms.

Hyperbole much? 80% biglaw (and maybe more if we include none NALP firms) for any school is pretty damn impressive, especially in this economy.

For a school that bills itself as "anyone with a pulse can get a biglaw job," and tries to hold itself out as equal to HS, it is. There is a clear distinction between the biglaw prospects of a HYS student and a CLS student now. If you go to the top three schools, you are almost guaranteed biglaw just because of the name of your school. If you go to CLS, better get top 1/3, have WE, an IP degree, or can charm the pants off an alligator, because if you don't have something on your resume besides "Columbia Law School" there's a good chance you'll wind up with nothing.
