Regarding BYU's laptop initiative... They seem pretty pro PC. However, does anyone think it would be unwise for me to get a Mac?

I am wondering the same thing. If i have to drop $1200+ on a new laptop I want it to be a Mac. If it is wise to get a PC it doesn't have to be one they recommend, right? I think the Thinkpads are so ugly/bulky and the Dells are bulky/meh.

I am a dell guy myself so it isn't a problem for me but I think the reason they want us to buy one of the listed computers is because they will do all the tech. support on it. Each of the laptops listed also come with a 3 year full service warranty and all the needed software so it is actually a pretty good deal. I read that Macs are ok but remember you will need to purchase windows for it and the tech guys may not be able to support it.

I wonder if BYU will update their list of recommended laptops. We'll see I guess!

Do you guys have any information about financial aid? The financial aid info in the acceptance package wasn't very detailed. The website also seems to be targeted for undergrads... :?

I have been pretty frustrated by the lack of info on financial aid as well. I think I will go talk to the financial aid rep for law students. I will let you know if I find anything out.

I am from Phoenix and I just received a $25K scholarship from ASU, which brings tuition down to the same price as BYU over three years.

I was 95% set on BYU. Now, I am 80% set on BYU.

Hmm. :?

Is BYU Law predominately LDS like BYU undergrad?

Yes, but I've never seen any official numbers to know for sure. 1L and 2L posters on TLS have said they only knew of a few non-LDS law students, but that people did not really talk/ask about it.

I emailed Doug Young the financial aid guy over law students asking how to apply and this was his reply.

"The Financial Aid Office will not start processing until the middle of April and
at that time you can access the BYU application for financial aid." Doug

So apparently we won't be able to apply until later in April.

I hope this helps.

^ Thanks so much for getting that info. I guess we'll just have to apply sometime in April.

Doesn't it seem a little odd financial aid info comes out so late? Maybe they don't put as much emphasis on it cause tuition is already so cheap. Who knows...

I wonder how substantial financial aid will be. My efc was really low, but I'd imagine there are a lot of low efc students at BYU with so many married students and some having kids.

Good luck to you @ Pepperdine. I just got back from UW-Madison's ASW and am torn between them and BYU. I will probably do BYU but I still want to be absolutely sure. I wish I could have met some of my prospective classmates at BYU's ASW but was admitted after their last welcoming event, too bad.
