Definitely UP!! I visited this past weekend & was amazed by the new building. State College is a great town, too. I can't make it to ASD, but are any of you planning on attending the Blue-White game on April 25th?

What are you going to do for housing; rent or buy and house or apartment? My wife is nervous about finding a teaching job in the area, a pamphlet showed over 25% of high school teachers had doctorates at UP.

but I hear PA teachers make pretty good money!LSATfromNC wrote:What are you going to do for housing; rent or buy and house or apartment? My wife is nervous about finding a teaching job in the area, a pamphlet showed over 25% of high school teachers had doctorates at UP.
...and we're kind of clueless right now about where we're going to stay. They have graduate student housing (I forget the name of the place), which a lot of people seemed to recommend. We'd really like to rent a house with a fenced in yard for the dog to run while we're gone. I guess we'll be going back up in a couple of months to check out some places.
My wife has been doing special events/public relations for about 3 years, so we're looking for openings at hotels, conference centers, and museums right now, but she'll probably have to settle for some bullshit for a while before she finds something.
What are your plans right now?

Wife, 2 kids (4 and 1 1/2), and basset hound. What's your family situation?LSATfromNC wrote:You can pretty much count me in! Are any of you bringing family with you?
Soxy, in that email I sent you, the second apartment complex is dog-friendly. I don't know if that means boxer-friendly, but it's something to check out. I'd also prefer a house, though.

Re: Penn State Dickinson School of Law 2012
Ok, so I was getting a little worried looking for houses for rent online because I wasn't finding much...but I went to http://www.statecollege.com (hat tip, Mr. Jones) and they have a rental guide there with tons of stuff.
My wife is going to be so proud of me today! Maybe she'll forgive me for booking the rape & murder inn this weekend when we went to the Penn State open house.
Edit: 2nd glance shows that my initial search gave me houses and apartments, so the 90+ hits I thought were houses were mostly apartments.
I suck.

What hotel did you stay at? You should have stayed at one of the hotels on campus.
The teachers in PA appear to be paid well, however she has been told by many PA transplants it is near impossible to get a job (with only a few years experience), let alone in a specific area.
It will be my Wife and 1 year old child going with me, along with my two dogs. However one dog is so large he may actually be a cow, maybe.

Penn State sent me the "we are out of funds but you are first on our list for merit aid after the deadline" acceptance letter. I've also received need based aid. Do you guys think they are serious about re-offering people like me some $?

Yeah, I was looking over the thing for need based aid last night...it says that students under 30 are not considered for need based aid if their only dependent is their spouse, unless parental information is used on FAFSA. With my parents' income I'm certain that I wouldn't be considered either way, which sucks, cause my ass is broke.A'nold wrote:Penn State sent me the "we are out of funds but you are first on our list for merit aid after the deadline" acceptance letter.
