what is the temple in-state tuition?

I think it's roughly $17K/yr for 2009-2010

uGH! You in-stater's are so lucky.

Also--know where you're living yet? I don't know too much about Philly so any suggestions would be appreciated! I'm also considering getting a roommate. Anyone know if the Temple roommate list is a good option?

I know - I changed my residency from NJ to PA last year just on the hopes I would get into Temple.

I live in the burbs, but here's a quick breakdown of some of the city areas - I'm sure other Phillies will disagree with me on some of these :)

Rittenhouse - expensive, very nice
Old City - not as expensive, lots of bars and near the waterfront
UPenn/Drexel area - lots of other students in these areas but getting to Temple can be a hassle from here
South Street - personally my favorite area, lots of bars, shops, and restaurants - but can get shady on weekend nights due to the riffraff ;)
South Philly - you can find some really great deals on apartments, more of a neighborhood feel
Northeast - not popular with people that aren't from Philly, some shady areas
West Philly (eg - higher than 45th st)/North Philly - No. Just no.

I'm sure I'm forgetting some areas, anyone else fee free to comment!

Long time reader – first time poster.

I'm still trying to make my final decision but I’m definitely leaning towards Temple.

The current students at the open house had good things to say about the roommate list.

I’ll be looking in the Rittenhouse / Center City area.

Does anyone know why they want us to send in a passport sized photo? Do other schools do this?

I'd assume the following:

1. standard database

Hypothesizing the following:

2. available for prof's rosters (my undergrad did this by applying our student id photo to the roster)

Ok good, I was hoping they weren't going to use them as ID photos because mine is AWFUL

I am still undecided, but pricing out cost of living is a big part of my decision process. Where are most of you going to be living next year?

Just a heads up.. I'm not sure what apts you are looking at in Old City, but the Old City rental market is about the same as Rittenhouse... It seems to be going up all the time.

FWIW I'm at 11th between Pine and Spruce and I love it..

I'm leaning towards attending as well...definately very warm student body and faculty at the ASD, so unless I get off any of the t30 WL's I'm on (everyone i applied to  ) and in that event, feel like making a last minute change, I'll probably be at temple....I think I'll wait to try and figure out where I'll live until I'm certain I'll be attending...All I really know about Philly is that the area around penn is really nice, but the commute to temple is fairly sketchy imo

hello.. also considering temple very strongly. will be at the evening ASD next week. i've lived in 2 areas of philly, fwiw. used to live in west philly (around clark park, 43 and Baltimore) -loved the neighborhood, eclectic style with lots of grad students, parks, and ethnic food, but it will be too much of a commute from temple. now i live in old city, which is super convenient, and i love that there is so much to do. i will be trying to live in Rittenhouse, grad hospital area next year w/ roomies.

Temple is honestly a great place to be

I just turned in my 1L brief so maybe I'm just in good spirits?

Sent in my deposit today! I'll be sad to move from California but excited/nervous to start a new chapter. I know nothing about Philadelphia, other than the 20 hours I spent visiting Temple.

Hey first time posting. I live in California and probably will attend Temple. I will not be able to make a trip out there until May or so due to work and school. As far as housing does anybody know anything about the University Village. It looks pretty cheap but I wonder if I would be the only 1L there, any thoughts.

So far the roommate list is looking pretty slim...hopefully more people will put themselves on it as time passes?

Hi guys, I'll be withdrawing (passively since it's already almost past the deadline), good luck to everyone! Hope my spot goes to someone from the waitlist that really wants it!

Mine has been sent!

Did anyone else watch the admitted students webcast? I laughed when the guy said he went to the gym, still had a social life, he and his girlfriend didn't break up, and his pets didn't die during 1L. That was my worst fear!

How does everyone feel about the US News rankings? I know they're not that important for schools out of the Top 20, but Villanova kicking Temple's butt kind of stings. And Penn State must be ecstatic since it jumped up so many spots, and is now = Temple. I still think that Temple, especially for those staying in the Philadelphia area, will continue to remain unrivaled for many years to come.

I wonder what made them fall 6 spots since last year. Any thoughts?

this may be more of a case where others are doing more to move up (penn state) or game the system even. temple is still a solid school by any means and i honestly do not think penn state can claim to be equal to them just yet. more than likely, temple is just
doing the same thing year in year out that has made them a good school. they simply aren't being rewarded for it because other schools are making more drastic changes.

i have always said the rankings are arbitrary and offer more to speculation and water cooler talk. this doesn't take away from their
importance in some regards, but i have not and am not going to live my life by them. and i agree, temple still has a strong reputation
in the philadelphia market so while this may sting, no one there is looking for the door.

i'm a 1L at psu by the way, so in no way am trying to talk up or troll for temple. but being here has really given me insight into how schools play the ranking game.
