agreed......let see if we can't get something going......Where is everyone planning on living? I am going down in a few weeks to look at apartments in the university uptown area. Anyone have any advice to offer....CassieRae wrote:volfan6415 wrote:wow this thread died.....
hahaha, its just.... all the people, like you said, who are writing about tulane, are writing about their "eternally eligible" status in the other thread. but i agree, more conversation should be made amongst us definite tulanians. after all we will be seeing plenty of each other in a few short months!

after attending the ASD the consensus seemed to be that the best time to find housing was june and july. however id like to know where im living asap. for me personally i would prefer to find a house within walking distance to Tulane.

Re: Tulane 2012
i posted this in some other Tulane topic, but nontheless
- attended undergrad in new orleans from 2003-2007
- applied to Tulane on Jan 5...accepted March 25
- definitely plan on practicing in New Orleans, so I am hoping that Tulane offers a good $ package.
ps- whoever is spreading the propaganda about crime in New Orleans is overtly exaggerating the issue. i lived in the tulane area, and never experienced crime nor did anyone in our neighborhood. one year, there was an incident with a stolen bike, but that was it. i also lived in mid-city (where the crime is high) but never had any personal issues. the soaring crime rate applies to people who are heavily involved in gang or drug activity. if you do none of these things, then you will be fine.
don't believe the hype. like any other college town, one needs to be safe. that's it

Re: Tulane 2012
These stories are absolutely ridiculous, I grew up in New Orleans, and being a victim of a violent crime is highly unlikely as long as you don't have a drug addiction that will foce you into the housing projects late at night. I know ONE person out of two dozen that attend Tulane who has been a victim of armed robbery. That is like what, 4%? I'll take my chances.

Re: Tulane 2012
just got home from the ASD and am definately attending tulane in the fall!
as for the crime, one of the students at the ASD said katrina drove most of the crime out of nola into houston and atlanta. he said the crime was nothing to be too concerned about, as long as you aren't running out of a bar screaming at 330am.

Re: Tulane 2012
I also had a blast at the ASD and was really impressed with the program/students/staff/faculty. Haha, maybe I shouldn't say this, but I didn't expect to be this impressed - I think I drank too much TLS kool aid (no offense to you T14 TLSers, but you can be kind of down on non-T14 schools). I'm happy that I feel at home there since it is looking more and more like I'll be at Tulane this fall unless some sort of waitlist miracle occurs (miracle in that both of mine are HUGE lists, which = not much chance of getting off either).
My only issue is that I keep choosing schools with no real mascot - what the heck is a "green wave," anyway?

Sent in my deposit to Tulane today, the ASD did what I needed it to do, not scare me away. Flying up to Ohio next week, but unless they wow me beyond a doubt, I'm going to Tulane (unless I luck out and get off a WL).

as a current Seminole (what could be better ) I'm a little disappointed in this respect as well. im thinkin tulane just isnt going to be able to supply my weekly dose of college football saturday shenanigans.... then again, i probably wont have time anyway lolthejules wrote:

Re: Tulane 2012
i have family who live in new orleans and as far as crime is concerned you will totally fine in uptown...
one word of advice for those comin downtown/the french quarter for the first time, just always remember to not wander north of rampart or you'll be in the iberville housing projects (only had to make this mistake once, it was terrifying)

Re: Tulane 2012
does anyone know the grade distribution for tulane? i received a scholarship contingent on 3.0 or above. i know at some schools this is quite easy to achieve but at others not so much. insight would be appreciated.

Re: Tulane 2012
if I remember correctly, according to a Tulane Law Student who frequently posts here (aguacaliente), one year 56% of the class achieved that gpa or greater, and the year prior it was 57%.

Re: Tulane 2012
I asked the financial aid office about this and they quoted the followind from the student handbook:
"the grading curve requires that in any course with 21 or more JD students, the professor must award no less than 60% and no more than 65% grades of B and above, and must award no more than 75% grades of B- and above to those JD students.”
I've heard some students say it's difficult to get A's, approximately 10% in a general class, so it might be tough to get the GPA quality points needed to keep scholarships secure. There is a +/- distinction that is calculated into the GPA. The “+” adds .33 quality points, and the “-“ subtracts .33. (That is, B = 3.0; B+ = 3.33; B- = 2.67.)
Financial Aid say generally about 60% keep their scholarships through three years.

I'll be there on the 17th, but I have to get back for work so I'm leaving early on the 18th. Any ideas of where to go after the ASD activities? Besides just the general French Quarter?volfan6415 wrote:who all is going to be in NOLA the 17-19th there is that french quarter festival going on we should try to get some TLS'ers together.....I know I will be there

I'll be there too. It sounds like a lot of fun! I extended my stay to the 20th so I could take in the festival and the rest of the NOLA experience

a green wave might be an odd mascot, but they play their home games in the superdome! or, at least NOLA has the saints, which is more than i can say for some cities (cough LOS ANGELES cough)
