UCLA Class of 2012
We've long since had a thread for folks accepted at UCLA -- http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... ed+at+ucla -- but who's getting set to put down their deposit?
I applied ED and only to UCLA. Makes my decision pretty easy.
Giddy up.

Weren't you a UCI applicant? If so, classic example of what UCI high median naysayers are talking about.

Re: UCLA Class of 2012
Additionally I went to UCLA for undergrad, and it was the only law school that could keep me in LA, where I needed to stay until at least 2010 for personal reasons.showNprove wrote:(UCLA > USC) + (UCLA cheaper than USC) = Go to UCLAart vandelay wrote:Congrats!

As for UCI, no, I wasn't an applicant, though the free tuition and likelihood of a good future reputation was attractive.

Hey Squints,
Congrats! Im a fellow EDer so I'll see you in the fall. I'm thinking about places to live near campus-- as a person who went there for undergrad do you have any recommendations? Where do people generally live? (I know about Weburn, but I'm not a huge fan of university housing).
Also do you think that as EDers we have any chance of receiving merit scholarships? I wasn't offered one but I fantasize that they'll reward us at the end of the cycle for applying early. lol

I'm crossing my fingers for UCLA. I'm weighing my being impressed with the school against my hatred of the city in which it is located.

Re: UCLA Class of 2012
Dean Schwartz told me we had just as good a chance of receiving merit scholarships as general applicants with comparable numbers. But the downside, obviously, is we can't get, say, a $40,000 offer form Texas and then take that back to UCLA. So far I've received nothing either, though scholarships are offered on a rolling basis ... I'm also holding out hope. My numbers and softs would have gotten me admitted from Michigan on down, so I'd like to think I'm deserving of at least a small scholarship.lshopeful888 wrote:Also do you think that as EDers we have any chance of receiving merit scholarships? As for places to live, that depends on how plugged into campus you want to be. North Village in Westwood is fun, but really busy and mostly undergrads. A lot of grad students live south of Wilshire or in Brentwood. You could also live along the foothills of the Valley -- Sherman Oaks, Studio City -- if you want to save a good deal of money. What are you looking for?

I've gotten love from everywhere but LA so far. Oh well. Anyways, I don't want to hijack this thread. I'm hoping UCLA offers soon though...

Re: UCLA Class of 2012
I was ED as well so that makes the choice really easy. I think I'm going to put my seat deposit down in the next few days....
I'm from the Valley, moved away for undergrad, so I'm excited to be moving back. Not sure about where I'll be living - my SO lives in Los Feliz/Silverlake which I *love* but I think the commute would kill me a bit. I might compromise and find a place in WeHo.
Good to meet you all here! Thanks for starting this!

I haven't put my deposit down, but I'm 80% sure I'll be attending UCLA this fall. Just got my acceptance call last week.

Re: UCLA Class of 2012
Man, UCLA is gonna be expensive real soon. Almost 40k a year in-state by 2010? That's crazy! USC is at 42 right now, and while they'll probably go up... I dunno, I just always saw UCLA as the affordable option. Add in the price of living in/near Westwood...

Re: UCLA Class of 2012
I saw the tuition page for USC, and they estimated 66k a yr... craazy.. I wanted to buy a house for those 3 yrs instead of paying rent, and doing so near UCLA will be very very expensive (but I'll have to dodge bullets by USC).
I applied to both schools on 12/31/08 (3.45/170) and still haven't heard a peep. How long did it take them to get back to you all.. with what numbers?
UCLA is my top choice even though I have been accepted to higher ranked schools already.. hope they can see that

Is it possible to be a 1L at UCLA without a car? How much of a pain would it be?

Re: UCLA Class of 2012
Of course it's possible, assuming you live in Westwood or along Wilshire/Santa Monica Blvd (mostly to the W of UCLA)- those awesome blue commuter busses run along those streets pretty frequently and I've never heard of anyone having problems with them. Other busses... you might have some problems. In short: getting to and from campus probably won't be a problem, but getting anywhere outside of Westwood/Brentwood/Santa Monica might be a total pain and often times nearly impossible, depending on where you want to go. But I can guarantee you that EVERYONE you know will have a car so you won't be stranded or anything!jacktripper wrote:Is it possible to be a 1L at UCLA without a car? How much of a pain would it be?
