How long does it take for schools to respond?

Post by niliev » Wed Sep 10, 2008 12:31 pm

So I sent out GULC, Duke, UVA, and U of Chicago yesterday...any one have any idea about when I should be expecting the first responses?

It depends. No news, generally, is good news.

However, you'll hear early/mid October if you're an auto-admit at Georgetown probably, otherwise you'll get rejected in January.

It all depends on the strength of your application.

But January is typically the month where most people hear back that applied early, unless they ride the WL train on to April.

Is that true? I had the impression that decisions came back prior to the new year, some of them as early as November. I believe there is evidence of this on LSN, but I'll go ahead and check that again now.

You usually only hear back before the new year if you are an auto admit or an auto reject (or EA/ED that have decision dates before 1/1/09). And usually its only auto admits. The schools have until the start of classes to admit you, so it could take that long (i.e. August 20th-ish).

I was under the impression that GULC wasn't accepting until 9/25. Am I wrong about this, anyone?

You're right. "In order to allow the Admissions Office sufficient time to process all applications, Applications for Fall 2009 may be submitted as early as September 25, 2008."

They allowed online submissions as of the 8th.
