2L Taking Questions

Post by lawlife10 » Thu Jul 18, 2019 2:58 pm

The law school process is stressful and I remember how nervous I was about my application, getting accepted, and being a 1L. Feel free to ask any and all questions!

About me:
I'm a rising 2L at a top 20 law school
Attending on a scholarship
Pursuing public interest
I had a low LSAT score, but an extremely high undergraduate GPA
I got accepted to several top schools, all with varying scholarship offers

Based on your current status and job outlook (knowing that PI jobs aren't really certain until well into 3L), would you go back in time to retake the LSAT for a better scholarship/better school options?

I actually did take the LSAT twice and was accepted into several T-14 schools, but graduating without debt was the most important factor for me.

Also a rising 2L happy to take any questions as I'm able

Also at a Top 20
Attending on a ~50% tuition scholarship
Fairly high LSAT after 2 takes (>95th %tile) but sub-3.0 UGPA
Went to the highest-ranked school that accepted me
Pursuing big law lit with no strong ties/geographic preference. My 1L grades are pretty good but not elite and I seem to be doing okay with interviews so far.

Edit: If you quote me please don't quote any of my info, will probably delete eventually

Right. I'm wondering if you still think that was the right call, or if you think you would have benefited from raising your score and increasing your scholarship offers within the T13. It would probably also be helpful for 0Ls to know more specifics about your desired career track.

I thought hard about retaking a third time, but ultimately, I think I made the right call. So far, I haven't had any trouble with employment (I know it's still early for me) and I don't know any 2Ls or 3Ls who have really struggled either. In terms of career, my ideal scenario would be to secure a fellowship and work at a policy/advocacy organization.

Another 2L willing to take questions, but offering a counterpoint in that I went T13 over T20 for free and have zero regrets about the decision. Granted, I still have a substantial scholarship at my T13 but the cost of attendance difference between the two is still in the six figures.

What made the extra debt worth it for you? Better chances of Big Law? More prestige?
