I am wondering if an in-person interview preferred to an online interview? or either one would be fine? Thank you very much.

In-person interviews are generally going to be better, but it won't make that much of a difference. So if doing an in-person interview would require you to go out of your way (i.e. travelling to WashU's campus just for an interview), just do it over Skype. But if you live near St. Louis (or if WashU lets you interview with a local alum), take the in-person option.
