My post-high school jobs were all in beauty & retail stores. Seems irrelevant.

Also, should I be describing each award I received? They aren't really self-explanatory.

Also-- leave awards like community college awards out?
I really, really hope that someone posing as an admissions expert is referring to the Job History section of the application and not your resume. If she's talking about the resume... that's special.

No. You should not be including every job you've ever had on your resume. That's fucking idiotic. But yes, if you list awards (and no you shouldn't list every single trophy you've gotten since high school, either), you should include a brief description.

But overall you think I should stick to one page or it's ok if I go over??
I think it's ok if you go over a page, but literally no one is interesting enough to warrant more than a page-long resume. You can cut things to get to one page.

I don't know why Berkeley's being weird, but that is literally the most absurd direction I've seen on an application for a resume. I wouldn't be able to resist writing "Please see Job History section of application for full work history" on top of my normal resume.

I don’t think this is terribly weird at all given that a law school admissions resume isn’t the same resume you’d create/submit for actually applying for a job. I know it’s mostly redundant with what you submit in the application but I don’t think it’s automatically a crazy thing to ask for.

I would imagine there are ways to compress certain details, though - like put all your retail/similar jobs together in one entry:

Gap, Abercrombie & Fitch, Nordstrom’s 2013-2017
Sales associate responsible for customer service, display maintenance, opening and closing the store.

However, unless a school says 1 page max there’s no issue with going over. And if they say 1 page max clearly they don’t want everything you’ve ever done in your life.

I looked at a lot of different opinions on this before submitting my applications since I have 16 years worth of post-undergrad work experience. Even Spivey says they don't need to be 1 page. What I chose to do was list all of the jobs (including one during undergrad because it was with a law office) with title, location, and dates but only expand on responsibilities for the positions that I felt were applicable to law school, particularly my current one and the one just previous. However, if your schools give specific direction on number of pages or every job it may be worth doing multiple versions.
