YLS: chances harmed by retake, or black box full of hope? Forum

I'm sorry in advance that this is another one of those annoying threads. I'm a natural science major with a 3.92 and a 168 followed by a 177 on the LSAT. Does that 168 seriously harm my chances at Yale? Everybody says Yale is the only school that cares about retakes, but it's been tough for me to figure out to what degree this holds true. Thanks in advance for the advice!

"Advice" generally assumes that you can take some kind of action in response to information, but you can't. You already retook, and you can't go back and undo it. Focusing on the likely effect is not a good use of your time. Make your application the best it can be, and see what happens. You have great credentials, and should have a good application season. Good luck!

It's true, nobody knows. As a data point, I was a 4.0/166-->177 retaker. Got into H/S but dinged at Y. But maybe my 250 was underwhelming. Yale is truly unpredictable.
