I wouldn't worry about it. It's not going to affect your application in any way.

It's really only used for data collection and for some specific scholarships (first generation college student, etc.). From your description, it also sounds like he didn't actually complete his doctorate, so I think you're in the clear regardless. But trust me, no one cares.

Okay. Thanks guys, this makes me feel a lot better. I'm thinking I'll just send a few three liner emails to the schools saying I made an error and stop losing sleep over it.
