Re: CLASS OF 2020 MEDIANS (LSAT/GPA/CLASS SIZE)
I see, thanks. Also, how useful are these numbers in determining your chances for next cycle? It seems like they could be good guideposts as to roughly where one stands, but the numbers will of course change next year. For example, if my GPA was .01 below a school's median for last cycle, I could easily be above median for next cycle. Is it just a given that schools try to hit the same numbers they did last year?doggozeg wrote:It seems like the 25/75 would drop too (as with past experience), but I agree that it could just mean a tighter distribution. Unfortunately, median is not affected at all by distribution. Some schools seem to have long tails on the 25th percentiles because once they can hit their desired median, the half under the median can be anything and not affect the median. I don't think we will know the trend until a few schools put out numbers.rictheruler wrote:If a school's median GPA went down, is it safe to say that the 25 and 75 probably went down as well? Or could it just mean the numbers are clustered differently?

So I am not entirely sure of the answer, but I think I agree that you can go off of the prior year (so class of 2020) numbers as a reasonable guide.rictheruler wrote:I see, thanks. Penn Sate-Dickinson capped at their 75 student max this year
They didn't mention their medians today - tomorrow is Day 2 of orientation, though

Over the many years I have been doing this and following this-- I have noted that school's that did not do as well seem to often release their scores later than this that did well.principalagent wrote:Everyone seems to be holding so far. When is the bottom going to fall out?

I don't believe it's public knowledge yet (though it will be soon), but William & Mary's medians are out via e-mail:
W&M:
4,036 (-207) applications
188 (-48) enrolled
157 (0)/163 (+1)/164 (0)
3.47 (-.02)/3.74 (-.01)/3.85 (-.03)

tbh i was hoping that with the drop in students they'd be able to bring their median back to 166.T25 JD 2020 hopeful wrote:Wow. They kept the exact same medians but lost 42 students!??loslakers wrote:USC announced their medians at orientation, no mention of 25th and 75th percentiles.

Do you think schools will see some smaller class sizes in an attempt to hold medians?MikeSpivey wrote:Over the many years I have been doing this and following this-- I have noted that school's that did not do as well seem to often release their scores later than this that did well.principalagent wrote:Everyone seems to be holding so far.
