Letters of rec - out of school 3 years Forum

Hi! I graduated undergrad in 2014 and am applying for 2018 this fall. I've had two jobs since graduating, both of whom would gladly write me pretty glowing letters of recommendation. I haven't kept in the best touch with profs from undergrad, but I could probably wrangle two from there - just not sure how good they'll be. So the question is - do I definitely need two academic letters? And if yes, for the schools that accept 4 letters, is it worth it to get a letter from both of my jobs, or just the most recent?

Harvard undergrad / 3.96 / 173 - looking for HYS/CCN.

You should try and get two professor LORs. Academic LORs are given a lot more weight.

If you absolutely can't get two professors to write a decent rec, then do one professor and one job.

With your numbers your letter of recs won't really matter much

Try to get some from professors. It shouldn't be a big deal--they know how the game works. Ask professors that gave you an A or better in classes where not everyone got an A. As a courtesy, volunteer to send your personal statement (it's ok if its just a draft) and any written work that you did in the class.

Again, professors tend to know how law school works. It would be different if you needed legit recommendations for a PHD program in your field.
