Re: Berkeley ED
I feel like Berkeley at sticker is never worth it and that's probably what you are looking at. My guess is that the 171 would still pull in some decent money at Cornell or UCLA. If you raise it few points on that retake chances of good money at those two grows and you start looking at Michigan, Duke, Northwestern with some $ plus you should pull Berkeley regular decision at which point you should wait to see if they offer a scholarship ( they are pretty stingy).

Re: Berkeley ED
Are you independently wealthy? If not, applying ED often doesn't make a difference in admissions, but it does pretty much guarantee that you won't get a scholarship offer.
You're going to be a splitter at all the T13, so you might want to think about applying more broadly. Berkeley favors high GPAs, and you will be able to come back to California with your ties from any T13 school. I wouldn't pin all your hopes on one school just because of location.

Re: Berkeley ED
BTW I get the whole SO/family thing having just gone through the same decision but it's only a few yes vs. maybe 10 years of paying back massive debt. Just doesn't seem like the smartest decision to me. Plus as much as well all want to assume we will be above median what happens if something goes wrong and you end up below median? Then you might strike out big law and still have massive debt. Cornell really might give you 100k at this point and if your lsat goes up your possibility at $$ at other top 13 schools will really grow.
