Networking with Joint Degree Program

Post by butterfly16 » Mon May 22, 2017 9:50 pm

I am considering MSW/JD or MPA/JD programs. I was wondering if people who have pursued or considered pursuing a joint degree programs had concerns about networking. My understanding is that joint degree programs do not allow you to finish with your law school class. To what extent does this affect networking? Did you regret doing the joint degree?

Hi,

Although I am only a senior undergraduate I have looked extensively into a MPA/JD joint degree as I plan on taking the CPA next summer. From what I understand and from those I have talked with, although you graduate one year later than your class, you still have first year experience of law school with that class, and that is what bonds and creates the connections. As far as networking outside the class, I see no reason you would have less chances to meet firms in the business or law realm. You have similar opportunities, you just happen to be taking classes at a different pace.
