Eviction- fitness and character

Post by Lang023 » Thu Mar 23, 2017 6:41 pm

Hello,

On law school applications it asks if I have ever had a violation of the law? Does this include evictions? I had a horrible roommate who did get evicted but unfortunately my name was on the lease. Should I answer yes to this question?? It was like 5 years ago but seems longer. It looks bad on my end :(

I'm pretty sure eviction is a purely civil matter in normal circumstances.

That's a vague question. Lots of things are "violations of the law". But if the school asks about your criminal record, eviction doesn't count.

If, on the other hand, they ask whether you've ever been a party to a civil action, then you'd have to disclose the eviction.

Was it an eviction by court order or just by your landlord verbally?

It means you said something very, very stupid, and I want to preserve it for all time.

Eviction by court stays on your public record. I assume that's something you have to disclose.

Jesus.

Just stop. The OP already got their answer, and you should be focusing on studying up for the LSAT (or finding a different career path).

Ugh...thanks. I didn't want this to be a trolling fest. I'm just gunna call the school and ask- which is what I should have done in the first place.

He means there is no such thing as a verbal eviction by your landlord. Just like there is no such thing as a verbal restraining order, or a verbal car accident.

Do NCAA athletes that renege on their verbal commitments to a school have to disclose that on their C&F?

You have to be responsive to the questions asked by each school
