Higher median than a few T-14's now. WUSTL shelling out that $$$

Shame it won't help them more in the rankings/general perception. It should.

Over time it may... I guess that is sort of how all these things are, but I'm sure that they are aware of that.Hikikomorist wrote:Shame it won't help them more in the rankings/general perception. It should.

Why? Because they're admitting a bunch of ~3.8/160s and ~3.1./169s? Are we sure their scholarship numbers have gone up this year? I'd wait to pass judgment until comparing 509 information. WUSTL is pretty appropriately ranked, I thinkHikikomorist wrote:Shame it won't help them more in the rankings/general perception. It should.

They just have to get outcomes to improve as well.

I think Hikko is saying that they're still viewed as a regional school, whereas Georgetown & Cornell have worse numbers yet are national reaching T14's.runinthefront wrote:Why? if Cornell and GTown doled out money like WUSTL they'd have higher medians.Rigo wrote:I think Hikko is saying that they're still viewed as a regional school, whereas Georgetown & Cornell have worse numbers yet are national reaching T14's.runinthefront wrote:Why? My class at WUSTL (2018) is on pace to have dramatically increased job outcomes from the most recent data.Rigo wrote:They just have to get outcomes to improve as well.
WUSTL's model (attracting STEM/non-traditional/etc. people with high LSATs and artificially low GPAs by giving huge scholarships) is working well.

Re: CLASS OF 2019! MEDIANS (LSAT/GPA/CLASS SIZE)
sounds like a pretty damn good idea. it would not be very fun to compete in a section stacked with a bunch of 3.0ish/ 168+ STEM kids.RareExports wrote:My class at WUSTL (2018) is on pace to have dramatically increased job outcomes from the most recent data.Rigo wrote:They just have to get outcomes to improve as well.

id much rather fight it out with the 4.3 Devry university basket weaving majors. GPA should be given about half of the weight of the LSAT.

Re: CLASS OF 2019! MEDIANS (LSAT/GPA/CLASS SIZE)
I also don't think you could arguably call GT/Cornell's numbers "worse" by only looking at medians. I am obviously partial (as you can see from my posting history), but I'd be very shocked if Cornell's 25th percentile GPA went as low as 3.1~ or their 25th LSATs as low as ~160. Alot of excessive gaming of stats going on.proteinshake wrote:if Cornell and GTown doled out money like WUSTL they'd have higher medians.Rigo wrote:I think Hikko is saying that they're still viewed as a regional school, whereas Georgetown & Cornell have worse numbers yet are national reaching T14's.runinthefront wrote:Why? As a former splitter (if you could even call my abysmal stats 'splitting') I know that LSAT is by no means a great indicator of future success...but don't you think that WUSTL is setting up a quarter of their class to fail? I don't know. In the aggregate, I just cant see 3.8/160s (who studied moderately for the LSAT) being able to compete with STEM 3.1/168s all that well. The range of GPAs/LSATs is pretty damn wideRareExports wrote:My class at WUSTL (2018) is on pace to have dramatically increased job outcomes from the most recent data.Rigo wrote:They just have to get outcomes to improve as well.

Re: CLASS OF 2019! MEDIANS (LSAT/GPA/CLASS SIZE)
If you're defining "fail" as not getting a federal clerkship or biglaw job, then sure, WUSTL is setting up a quarter of its class to fail. But there are very few schools that can place the bottom quarter into those jobs, and WUSTL gives significant scholarship even to the bottom of incoming students.
No one is saying WUSTL is HYSCCN, but for its rank, WUSTL attracts high-caliber students and minimizes their debt burden.

Re: CLASS OF 2019! MEDIANS (LSAT/GPA/CLASS SIZE)
oh, you misconstrued my post. I probably wasn't clear; my bad. I'm sure WUSTL provides fine outcomes relative to its peers (and especially with whatever scholarship $ its purportedly throwing around). I mean that I think it may be hard for the 25th percentile 1Ls to compete with the 75th percentile 1Ls (in terms of LSAT scores--basically the STEM kids that you referred to, who were simply victims of grade deflation based on their major) in the aggregate.RareExports wrote:If you're defining "fail" as not getting a federal clerkship or biglaw job, then sure, WUSTL is setting up a quarter of its class to fail. I also think the high caliber of its students is properly reflected in its ranking. They're ranked #18, and I think that's fair. When viewing their entire spread of numbers as a whole (25/50/75) and their past employment outcomes, I think they're better than the schools behind them and worse than the ones in front. But this is all trivial anyway, as rankings don't really matter. The students who took WUSTL with $$$ are the real winners here i guess

Re: CLASS OF 2019! MEDIANS (LSAT/GPA/CLASS SIZE)
agreed. the only losers are the 3.8(soft major, soft uni)/160s who are paying big money to compete in a section loaded with 3.1/168+ STEM kids. that is a recipe for disaster.runinthefront wrote:oh, you misconstrued my post. most of my STEM friends (that im aware of) graduated in the 2.7-3.3 range - obscenely low by law school standards. but these are NOT the kids you'd want sitting in class with you when your ability to get out of debt essentially requires you to out perform your peers.

Highly doubt WUSTL stacks sections. That's TTT behavior.

Rigo, just stop. No one has made that claim here. I don't even think WUSTL gives out conditional scholarships.Rigo wrote:Highly doubt WUSTL stacks sections. That's TTT behavior.
