Checking in, this is getting so real. What does it mean when the median increases but the 75th drops? If it means anythinggoldenbear2020 wrote:UCLA:

The 25th GPA also dropped, so that means they enrolled more splitters (low GPA, 167-168 LSAT).playersball wrote:Checking in, this is getting so real. What does it mean when the median increases but the 75th drops? If it means anythinggoldenbear2020 wrote:UCLA:

Thank you! So interesting since CA schools are typically GPA focused- but good news for so many!goldenbear2020 wrote:The 25th GPA also dropped, so that means they enrolled more splitters (low GPA, 167-168 LSAT).playersball wrote:Checking in, this is getting so real. All of these improvements make me wonder how competitive this upcoming cycle will be

Re: CLASS OF 2019! MEDIANS (LSAT/GPA/CLASS SIZE)
according to Vanderbilt Class of 2019 thread:
"Can't remember all of it, but I think LSAT was 162/167/168 and the class size is 204. Don't remember the gpa stuff"
"I know 25th for GPA was exactly 3.500. I think 75th was like 3.8something? Don't remember the median. Agree with Abyss on the LSAT and size stats."
"There were 162 students in last year's class (162 students: http://law.vanderbilt.edu/prospective-s ... rofile.php). Going up to 204 is a 26% increase."
so they increased class size by 26% and their LSAT by 1 point.

Apparently the admissions office kept saying that more people accepted their admission offer than expected. I think this class size was partially an accident. This comes from anecdotes in the Vanderbilt 2019 Applicants thread.proteinshake wrote:according to Vanderbilt Class of 2019 thread:

Ironically the same thing happened to UVA last year. Their yield was wonky and they ended up with a larger class than they wanted.poptart123 wrote:Apparently the admissions office kept saying that more people accepted their admission offer than expected. this might be a reach but do you think many GULC people chose Vandy instead? I wouldn't think so since they don't even target the same markets really but idk.grades?? wrote:Ironically the same thing happened to UVA last year. I think folks might be slightly overreacting. Is a rise in apps/medians good? No, but so far it looks like most places are holding steady and still throwing around tons of cash.

People starting to realize that the South is the place to be. It started with the rust belt laborers moving down, now the professionals are coming in droves.proteinshake wrote:this might be a reach but do you think many GULC people chose Vandy instead? I (mostly) agree with this take, but wouldn't that mean schools like Duke, Texas, and Emory would also receive large class size increases?hipcatdaddio wrote:People starting to realize that the South is the place to be. Duke doesn't really place in the South so that 2 person decrease is understandable, but Texas and Emory increase would make sense....we shall see.RamTitan wrote:I (mostly) agree with this take, but wouldn't that mean schools like Duke, Texas, and Emory would also receive large class size increases?hipcatdaddio wrote: People starting to realize that the South is the place to be. Duke doesn't place in the south? Aren't they called the "Harvard of the south"? I also don't know where their students place, so I should look those up before continuing this convo lmaohipcatdaddio wrote:Duke doesn't really place in the South so that 2 person decrease is understandable, but Texas and Emory increase would make sense....we shall see.RamTitan wrote:I (mostly) agree with this take, but wouldn't that mean schools like Duke, Texas, and Emory would also receive large class size increases?hipcatdaddio wrote: People starting to realize that the South is the place to be. P.S. I know this is super anecdotal, but I have a friend who got a full ride at Vandy, and turned down a lot of T14 offers to go there. I don't know what that means for Vandy's merit aid overall, but if that is a prevalent trend, I think that would be an obvious explanation for their class size increase.

According to LST, their largest state of placement is NY at 31.3%, NC is 2nd at 13.5%, DC 3rd at 9.1%.RamTitan wrote:Duke doesn't place in the south? Aren't they called the "Harvard of the south"?
