When To Expect Fee Waivers After October LSAT

(NOTE: Many, many schools will offer fee waivers by request. Some will tell you to chill and wait for CRS. Can't hurt to ask, but make sure you avoid major typos like calling one school by another's name. They might not forget.)

>>I went through the Fee Waiver Thread from last cycle to see what waivers were received in the week after October LSAT Scores were released (to see if it's worth waiting to submit these applications). Nothing solid, but it's possible that we'll see the same general trend.

Hope this helps some people!

Here's what I found:

Several schools offered waivers by request, most lower than T14, but it's worth e-mailing outside of probably T6 if you're competitive. Columbia just said wait for CRS. NYU didn't respond positively either.

There are some repeats if schools e-mailed on different days, etc, and some schools e-mail with waivers even though they waive their fee.

The original thread is here:http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... =2&t=79774. I left off at page 84 if people are looking for stats for the week after this one.

Actual fee waivers this cycle that I've heard of will be bolded or added in bold so you can both see which ones have come and see if schools are following trends from last year.

Lzy, you are awesome.

AND BEFORE SOMEONE ASKS: Here Is How To Check For A Hidden Waiver.

^^ Lol. Absolutely necessary. Some particularly funny things from that thread were the lovely trolling by Helmholtz (Guys, ask schools for waivers for the $12 LSAC fee too!) and the amount of times people asked "What is a hidden waiver and how do I find it!!"

I'm bumping this so I can keep it on the first page and refer to it maniacally over the next week.

Good job, btw

Thanks guys.

As for Duke PT, I'd check out this thread: http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... 2&t=126686

It lists a lot of people that got an invite.

If you've already submitted to Duke and you get a PT invite afterwords, can your app be transferred to the priority track??

I'm going to try to update the list a bit this week. Actual fee waivers this cycle that I've heard of will be bolded or added in bold (if they weren't on the original list) so you can both see which ones have come and see if schools are following trends from last year.

Thank you so much for doing this! I really appreciate it. I just used it to confirm four hidden waivers (and W&M sent theirs via inbox early, early this morning.)

Also -- this may be a dumb question, but the CRS fee waiver only applies if you're sending your application online right? You'd have to pay if you're sending paper apps?

No problem, I needed the info too!

I would assume so, as you only find out about the hidden ones when you click submit. As for the other fee waivers, if the schools e-mail you or mail you a letter about it, then it should apply to paper apps as well. Are you doing paper apps? I didn't know that people really did that much anymore.

This is great, thank you! Does anyone know if people get fee waivers from schools they applied to the previous cycle? I retook the LSAT and my score jumped so I was hoping I would get more fee waivers but so far I haven't gotten any from schools that gave me them and to which I applied last year.

I pulled this from ATL's FAQ thread.

Q: I took the LSAT in previous cycles or am re-applying and am not receiving them, what should I do?

This thread has more info: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=127020
Wait until after the CRS wave goes out(which you can see in the thread linked) and e-mail politely and ask. So far this cycle(08/26/2010).

Good! Yea, me too. You'll notice they are bolded at the top. I'm trying to stalk the fee waiver thread and add in schools as they come. But if people want to notify here as well, that is helpful.

Great info!

I received W&M this morning (although Im not going to apply), and some others I received a while back because I hit up the law school fairs (Miami, San Diego, etc.). Ive already sent in most of my apps, so that may be a factor as well.

Technically I dont need any (LSAC waiver), but receiving some directly from the school gives me a boost in knowing that they are at least somewhat interested in me. I'm curious to see what happens tomorrow.

This may be a dumb question, but do you have to finish the primary app for a school to check for a hidden waiver? When I follow OP's directions, I get an error pop-up window that says "you have NOT completed the application", and won't let me continue. Anyone know about this?

Yep. Complete the necessary sections of the primary app and then you're good to go. Shouldn't take too long, and some sections don't have to be filled in. Put in some info, and save the changes. Then try it again.

Virginia, Duke, WUSTL, Minnesota, Indiana, Temple, Creighton so far this morning.

I'm pretty set on where I want to go, but I might apply to places that won't require huge rewrites of my essays, just for kicks.

ETA: UCLA, South Carolina
