Re: 2011 Applicants FAQ and Questions thread
For the LSAC common info part of the application: Do I really need to include GPA/rank for my high school? I went to an independent school that didn't rank and I don't know what my GPA was either...
Are schools anal about stuff on the common app form or are they just interested in LSAT/GPA and the info that shows on their own app?

Re: 2011 Applicants FAQ and Questions thread
Any of y'all want to help me with my resume? Right now I am just using a slightly modified version of the one I used to get my current job, but I feel like it should be more academic. Sadly, I have very few honors and awards to brag about (I graduated with departmental honors, but that just basically means I wrote a not-terrible thesis. That's pretty much it).

Re: 2011 Applicants FAQ and Questions thread
Hey guys,
I'm looking for help with my application as well - I took a year off from school and am currently holding 2 internships, one of which is a Senate campaign. But my main question comes with regards to my Personal Statement; I feel like I really need help with it.
I know I hear most people say to draw from one specific experience, but I'm having a lot of difficultly doing so, and finding something riveting that can help me stand out in comparison to other applicants. Can anyone help me here?
Thanks,
Jason

You're going to have to be more specific if you want help. What exactly are you having problems with? I'm a big fan of just putting a day aside solely to work on your PS, and then just writing & seeing what comes up. You can always post your PS here and have people tear it apart as well.jmb06010 wrote:Hey guys,

Re: 2011 Applicants FAQ and Questions thread
My biggest problem at this point is really finding a starting point, or focus to my PS. I can't seem to find that one unique moment or experience to draw upon. I'm looking for help as to where to even start. I'm willing to post parts of my resume if need be. If other people could maybe reflect upon what helped them, that would be great too. I am also more than willing to post my PS when I have it done and let people tear it down.

Yeah...
I was where you are too, and then I just took time and wrote whatever I felt like. After a while (like, 20 pages for me) you find out what you can write most persuasively/movingly about. I definitely think it's more about how you develop your topic and not what specifically you decide to write about. Remember it needs to be something personal, not just a point on your resume.

I don't mean to double post, but another question I had was if law schools will judge me based on my current LSAT if I apply BEFORE re-taking the test in December. That's currently my plan, and I'm willing to apply come November, but I don't want to do so if schools will be making decisions without taking into account my pending score that will be released hopefully mid-late December.

Re: 2011 Applicants FAQ and Questions thread
You can notify schools that you are taking the LSAT in December and ask them to hold off on looking at your app until your score comes in. If you haven't applied yet most schools have a box that you check saying you are taking the LSAT again. If you have already applied you have to email/call schools and let them know.jmb06010 wrote:I don't mean to double post, but another question I had was if law schools will judge me based on my current LSAT if I apply BEFORE re-taking the test in December. They didn't last year, and if you didn't get a link with your app they probably don't have one this year.2011Cycle wrote:Does George Washington have a status checker?

Re: 2011 Applicants FAQ and Questions thread
is there a consensus on when to/whether to write optional essays for schools? ive already applied a TON of places without writing any additional essays but from trolling around ive seen Notre Dame pretty much REQUIRES one........any other schools have that same kind of unwritten policy?
my initial feeling was that it was a "if you have anything exceptional that would help us decide that we have no box for"........kinda essay. am i going to be hurt by not writing any?
thx and im glad this got back up and going.......sneaky sneakylike

Re: 2011 Applicants FAQ and Questions thread
Anyone know if crunching more than 1 addendum onto one page is acceptable?
I have 3 addenda, all of which should easily fit on one page. I feel like 3 pages, 2 of which will literally be two or three sentences, is unnecessary at the very least. Also, I wonder if it might make the 3 as a whole less psychologically forceful if they're on one page (yes, they're negative: underage drinking, gpa trend & 1 silly exploratory adventure that landed me on student probation for a spell) .

I would think that addendum #1 and #3 should be together on one page under a conduct explanation label/heading. I would put addendum #2 on a second page, and try to make it less negative and more positive (look at how much better I am now vs look at how stupid I was then).CGI Fridays wrote:Anyone know if crunching more than 1 addendum onto one page is acceptable?

Any thoughts on whether submitting one great LoR to Michigan and GULC (they require only 1) is better than submitting a great LoR and a so-so LoR? I'm going back and forth on this.

Michigan only requires one, but recommends three. I would submit at least two.The Gentleman wrote:Any thoughts on whether submitting one great LoR to Michigan and GULC (they require only 1) is better than submitting a great LoR and a so-so LoR? I'm going back and forth on this.
GULC doesn't say anything quite so straight forward. "We require one recommendation for the JD application, but you may submit as many as you would like." One might actually be OK.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
