Unable to obtain all transcripts

Post by Godlike » Wed Jun 23, 2010 10:12 pm

I was curious as to how much of an issue it would be for law schools, if I am unable to obtain all my transcripts. I have a financial obligation to one institution, but it is not the degree granting institution. LSAC policy is to still process my GPA, apparently, with the records that I do have.

However, I am worried that this will raise a red flag with admissions. Does anyone know if inability to submit all your transcripts in is a big issue? Not sure if this is relevant but the schools I am aiming for based on my numbers are Columbia/Chicago range first choices and Michigan/Virginia/Northwestern as sort of safeties.

I tried to coax my transcripts from the school to no avail, and at this point I am 99% sure that I wont be able to get them during this cycle :(

If anyone has been in this position, or knows what to expect, PM me or post advice please.

You need to resolve your financial obligation and hold off applying until then.

To get this back on track,

I know that resolving the situation would be the best option, however I am unable to do so at this point, and I am going to apply with the financial obligation this coming cycle.

With that in mind, how much will it hurt me? or is it just completely inexcusable to have this? Has there been no one with a financial obligation applying before?

The bigger picture here is that you are required to submit all transcripts to LSAC. If you ignore this rule there will be consequences. For example, character and fitness portion of the Bar application will stomp a mudhole in that ass.

LSAC Webite wrote:Inability to Obtain Transcripts
If you are unable to obtain transcripts from an institution due to a financial obligation, you must indicate this when registering for the Credential Assembly Service (CAS). If the institution is the only undergraduate institution you attended, or if you have attended multiple undergraduate institutions and have outstanding financial obligations with all of them, a Credential Assembly Service law school report cannot be produced for you.
If you attended an institution outside the US, its territories, or Canada, and you have outstanding financial obligations with one or more of them, a Credential Assembly Service law school report cannot be produced for you.

I have heard that if you transferred 12 hours or more to your UG university, and LSAC doesn't have a transcript from that other school, it won't let you apply to law schools until they get it.

You are still required to submit all transcripts before applying anyway, whether your account is flagged for a missing transcript or not.

You need to hold off applying until you can get all transcripts. If you can't pay your debt now, you surely can't while in law school.

Admins can pull your admission when (not if) they find out, but I doubt it would get that far. You wont get past LSAC without it

I don't know either of your stories in-depth, but if the schools reported/report your failure to pay to a credit agency you won't be able to get loans anyhow. If you can't get loans what is the point in even applying or wasting your money on trying to apply?

Get it fixed then worry about LS.
