Personal Statement
Hi,
So I'm currently writing my personal statement for law school and I was considering writing about a friend that killed someone in a drunk driving accident and how it shaped my views on the criminal justice system.
For example: Prior to my friend killing someone in a DUI accident I viewed the criminal justice system as just black and white, but now getting a first hand look I see that there are gray areas, and the job of a prosecutor is a hard one etc.
Do you think that would shine a negative light on me?
Thank you

Re: Personal Statement
I already have a negative feeling about it just from the way you phrased it.
If you want to write about the criminal justice system, talking about the "gray area" in killing someone is probably not the best way to go about it.

Also, I think it’s going to be hard to make yourself the central character in this story and avoid being overshadowed by your friend’s situation.

I can imagine a way of doing this that could work but its definitely risky. If you want to write a draft or just DM more information I'd be happy to chat about it.

Re: Personal Statement
Seems like a reasonable topic for a law school PS. However, until you present a draft, it makes it difficult to offer any constructive criticism.

Re: Personal Statement
I would pick a different topic. Not sure you want to talk about the "gray area" of your friend killing someone.
