I was going to write about being first generation college graduate as a diversity statement...
But then I got to thinking maybe it'd be a better idea to craft that more into a story and make it my PS and make my diversity statement about being puerto rican?
Any thoughts?
Would a URM DS be more appropriate than writing about being 1st gen?

Re: Diversity statement or PS
Writing your personal statement about your first-generation background would be a good idea if you think it'd result in the best PS you can write. Ultimately, only you know can whether that's the case, although it might help to brainstorm other possibilities with someone who knows you well.
If you do go in another direction for your PS, it's not like you'll have to make a choice about what to write about in your diversity statement. Just incorporate both aspects of your background (first-gen status and PR heritage) into a single narrative.
