Diversity Statement & General Personal Statement Overlap
Is it ok for topics in these two statements to overlap at all? In my diversity statement I talk about a particularly different career I was engaged in as a child (was in movie business) and then tie in how it made me discover my passion for activism so much that it led me to develop an organization on my campus to raise money for girls in third world countries to get their education. In my general personal statement I talk about my work for the department of defense, however in the first paragraph I use an anecdote from a particular movie experience i had and then at some point in the personal statement I briefly tie in my organization I developed. Is this too much overlap?

Re: Diversity Statement & General Personal Statement Overlap
It is ok to have overlap, but you don't want to repeat a lot, which it sounds like you might be doing. More importantly, I don't think being in the movie business is the "diversity" law schools want to hear about or that you should write a DS about it. It's definitely not a usual topic for a diversity statement. You could probably just rely on the PS to talk about your movie career and your organization. That sounds interesting and probably makes for a good story. Your work with DoD is on your resume', so you could discuss that with brief references.

Re: Diversity Statement & General Personal Statement Overlap
I was wondering this too. I also applied to M.A. programs and their diversity statement seemed mostly for scholarships, whereas law schools seem to use it as part of their decision to admit you. I've read on some sites not to be too repetitive, but I'm guessing that it can be something mentioned in the personal statement, as long as it's not a major component of it. I'm going to ask my pre-law advisor about this ASAP.
