Columbia 2011 Housing

Post by Dark Knight » Sun Apr 27, 2008 7:25 pm

Hey guys I just had a question. I am about to submit my housing application and was wondering if you could take a look at what I am about to put in my comments section. What do you think?

First choice: 1 bedroom in 420 West 116th St or 115th street law school apartments. Not more than $1500/month.
Second Choice: 1 bedroom in UAH (112 to 115 streets), no more than $1400/month. Prefer close to law school as possible.
Third choice: 2 bedroom apartment share in Lionsgate. No more than $1500/month
Fourth choice: Spacious 2 bedroom share in UAH (112 to 115 Streets), preferably between Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue or Broadway and Riverside, although 115 street law school only apartments are ok as well. Range of $800-$1250 - location, size, and condition of room more important than price. Close to law school as possible. High floor preferred.

Overall: apartment must be between 112-116 streets, no dormitory-style rooms; No more than a 2 person apartment share; if share, preference for fellow law student; furnished and clean, spacious apartment a strong preference - more important than price. The apartment itself MUST be single-gender, although it can be a COED building or floor. Strongly prefer apartment between Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue or between Broadway and Riverside Drive, unless 420 116th Street or law school only apartments on 115th. Close to law school as possible. In all cases, cheap as possible but location and size more important. High floor also preferred.

I think it looks ok to me, but I only applied to couples housing so I don't know what the odds of getting a 1 BR for single law student is. I wouldn't be surprised if you ended up in a 2BR with a roommate though. Also, it's good to put that the quality is more important than the price... they invariably have to make some compromises with everyone's "ideal" choice, especially when you are very specific about location, and it's good to let them know what your priorities are in the process.
