i also will be attending ft this fall. mad excited. i sent in my application for financial aid they sent me a generous offer. however i am still confused as to what the facts are on their "fordham loans". It states that their is no interest on these loans, but in the financial aid guidbook it states that there is a fordham revolving loan that has a 8% interest rate. are these loans different as they make no mention of the no-interest loans in the guidebook?

I went to visit Cornell and met some partners from some NYC firms. While they did all go to Cornell, they kinda frowned when I mentioned Fordham. Bummed me out a little bit :(

Did the people you talked to mention anything about Cornell in comparison? I wonder if it was just some Cornell alumni hating on Fordham. They did graduate between 20 & 30 years ago as well. Back then, I don't think Fordham had quite the reputation that is has now.
Nope, Cornell was not discussed cause I didn't apply there (and, tho it's in NY state I don't consider it an NYC school, it being up in the sticks and all).
OK, I am sure that Cornell is looked at more favorably by some b/c it is "Ivy league" and Fordham's not. That'll never change. But Fordham is in the city which has to make a diff for networking, etc. Personally, I am not interested in working for a firm but I hear that Fordham does very well in that area.

In regards to plans on moving up to New York, I'm hoping to start a lease August 1st. I'm having some logistics issues with getting my old/sick dog up with me (he can't fly). I looked at how much it would cost to drive, but 1600 miles adds up to a ton of money in gas alone, let alone rental fee (moving from Texas to NYC). Unfortunately, I'm not sure I can get someone to take him off my hands given the fact that his medicine costs quite a bit each month. Any ideas? The fact that a dog is dictating my moving requirements is a bit ridiculous.

I am trying to put off moving until Sept 1. I am from Long Island so it's really not an issue of being able to get there. it would just be a pain. For PTers, anyone know how intense this class we take during orientation is? I believe it's a two credit one. I assumed it was orientation and going to be a joke, but I didn't realize we would be receiving a grade for it. If it is a lot of work I would consider moving Aug 1 to be better prepared.

many reasons- I didn't even really have money for the double deposit, the fact that Fordham is 2x the amount of Hastings, the fact that I only got into PT at Fordham, also I have connections in CA (my father is a solo practitioner out here). I do wish I would have had a chance to see what kind of aid fordham would offer me, but I'm happy with my decision to go to hasting...

My parents didn't give me that info either.... the school basically said i qualify for loans - no need-based aid.

good to know. it really is odd that they require parents' information. especially since grad students are automatically considered independent for fafsa purposes.

I agree. I've been on my own since 17 (am 33) and went to financial aid office and they STILL wanted me to provide it. Not sure exactly why---obviously I do not receive parental support. I did to the best of my mother's cooperation.

Hey, how many evening division students will be working full-time during the semester?

Also, is it even possible to get a law-related job before completing the first year?
