To give you an idea of exactly how I currently spend my 9-5 now that my trial is over:

Billable hours this week so far: 1
Non-billable hours this week so far: 18.

Week before vacation: Billable-8, Non-Billable-32

I basically am getting paid to surf the internets all day from now until July because they won't give me any work since I'm leaving in 3 months.

based off the facebook pic, it seems you need a good neck pillow for that chair.

Bilko, you're a lucky man. We have a three-week trial scheduled for May, so I'm in full-on trial prep mode for most of every day.

The good news is that most of the work involves printing documents, and since our printer tends to be slow, lots of time between is spent surfing teh Internets.

I was wondering how you had so much time. I'm actually supposed to be helping out on another ITC trial for end of April, but they don't seem to have much use for me.

Trial totally sucks. Then you get your paycheck and realize, oh, that wasn't so bad...

Almost all trial prep these days involves document collection and binder making, and my borderline case of ADD makes taking frequent breaks a necessity.

I am very much looking forward to those paychecks, though.

Tons of binders and lots of annoying needle-in-a-haystack document searches.

The only part of trial prep I found remotely interesting was depo. deignations since it gave me a chance to read every deposition in the case.

Yup, sounds about right. The highlight for me has been cite-checking our motions in limine. I was on depo designations for a while until the parties decided to designate, well, everything.

I just realized that we've hijacked yet another thread and steered this one into unsexy territory. Oops.

[interrupt awkward silence]

Just so everyone's clear, my "yup" referred to Bilko's pretrial work, not Holly's observation of our eternal, undying somethingorother.

Wait, not sure that helped...

MIL's get pretty interesting because some of ours got downright nasty.

In the same vein, we actually had to write a letter to the judge yesterday to respond to the other side's argument that our post-trial brief broke the court's rule that all briefs must be submitted in 12 pt. font.

According to the Chicago Manual of Style, however, 24 pt. spacing is the same as double-spacing.

Fucking lawyers, man....... Those letters probably ran each side at least $2,000

Way to take the relationships out of the relationships thread.

Really, I think this just proves that the UVA bunch can't stay on topic.

Class of 2011 thread gets hijacked by romance. Housing gets hijacked by politics. Romance gets hijacked by trial talk.

I think we're just a defiant bunch :)

It's a slow day at work for me, which means splitting time between cleaning my cluttered-up office, surfing YouTube, and trolling UVA threads. Distractions are muy welcome.

How many folks here are planning on going to the April 25 DC-area meet-and-greet? Should be awesome finally getting to meet some of you :)

I am :) I shamelessly proposed the 25th for my own selfish reasons, and somehow it worked out for me (I have to come home that weekend to babysit my dog).

Ah, that was you who made the suggestion! Good call. And sia, whatever your reasons for throwing it out there, the date seems to have worked out well for everyone. Turnout should be pretty good.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
