Hello all. As of today Brooklyn has made my decision up in the air again. If you could please take a look at my post http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... =1&t=32466 there for details and perhaps respond either here or over there with some points that made you choose Brooklyn and what would you do in my current situation. I always like to get some input as I did when I choose W&L originally but now the situation has changed.

Thanks in advance!

Do full-time students get preference over part-time students, or is it just done randomly? Thanks
I was told if I do P/T my first yr and get over a 2.5 I can transfer to full-time. The two classes that I am missing, I am making up in summer school.

PT and FT students have an equal shot at housing...as long as you get the form in on time.

I know a few friends who were moved to the FT program in the last few days before school started after some people got cold feet and dropped out. But like I said above, you can transfer after one semester and make up the one class you missed in the fall during the summer. That might be the better option as you have less classes to study for and worry about as you adjust to law school.

Amixpod ..

did you have any professors in your first year that you either loved or hated? Anyone we should be prepared to suffer through, or anyone we should be extra excited about if we see his or her name on our future schedules?

I don't want to name any names but I had a total of 7 professors. I loved 4, two was so-so and one was just terrible. You get assigned to a section so there not much choice to professors. However, most of them are relatively young and are great teachers. The young professors are the best because they are not too Socratic. They actually lecture and have class discussions! Some of the Professors that people rave about are: Cheng, Cahill, Serkin, Park, Gerber, Twerski, and a few others.

The professors are one of the best thing about BLS. They have some real stars in the making. These professors can both teach and shine in their academic research. You can read up about some of the Professors I mentioned here: http://www.brooklaw.edu/faculty/fulltime/

hey aximpod -- when do we find out what profs we'll be getting? (I haven't been able to get an answer from the Registrar yet.)

You will be getting something from Registrar over the summer - like late July / early August. I am not sure how it'll work next year because they were experimenting with having 4 classes instead of 5 classes with a section this year (same number of credits but instead of being a 2 semesters class, they make conlaw and civpro as one semester classes) You might end up taking either 4 classes (14 credits fall semester, 16 spring) or 5 classes (15,15 / 16,14).

They have an orientation period (like 3-4 days of intro to law - BOOORING)in mid August. I think you can start moving in on the 15th. You can start ordering books once you get your schedule. The bookstore can either ship it to your home, apartment, or you can pick it up. I suggest you try to check out Amazon for prices before you buy from the book store.

The orientation intro to law class is boring - its like 6 hours of classes per day. However, they got some good events during that period (probably will include a Brooklyn Cyclones game, a bar crawl, restaurant crawl). If you live on campus, especially Feli, they'll have some events there too.

You're welcome.

Of course, my opinions of my current professors might change after I get my grades back ;) It probably will and it is usually the one who I didn't like during the semester but changed my mind after I got my grade.

One question I had that I don't think was answered yet...how hard is it to get into Feil Hall as 1L? I'm wondering because I think it sounds like the best of all the dorms, esp because it's furnished and houses a majority. I applied before May 1, but I just wanted to know, how hard is it to get in there?

Also, on a side-note, what are the schedules like for part-time day students? When do classes begin and when do finals end?

I forgot but I believed it was an email from them where they directed you to the IT website. All that info should be coming over the summer.

Should be relatively easy as that is where most of the 1Ls live. On the priority list, rising 3Ls are first (they stay in their room), current 1Ls who are exempted from the housing lottery, then 1Ls. I think they gauge how many incoming 1Ls are requesting Feli before they start the lottery process for the current 1Ls.

You can find out about start date and end dates on the registrar website - http://www.brooklaw.edu/students/registrar/

Your schedule will be the same as a FT student if you are a day PT student. That is, one early in the morning at 9AM, one at 11AM and one at 2PM. Evening PT student have classes from 6-9PM.

First deposit was 300+25 (for a matriculation fee), so $325.

And the second deposit is $600, which is due June 2.

Plus there was a scholarship deposit of $200 (if you got $ and were not putting the housing deposit of $500 down, otherwise it's waived).

I think 800 sq. feet is great for a 2 bed! Mine right now in the city is about 450-500. Haha. So you'll have a ton of space.

I still haven't gotten my assignment yet! What time did you get yours yesterday?

My housing assignment and roommate info were sent by email last year.

Congrats on getting the 2BR. Those are huge and you probably have your own bathroom too.

aximpod - do you know if the e-mails were sent out in waves? i still haven't gotten mine but i don't want to be annoying and ask them.

also, what if you don't like your housing assignment? is there some kind of swap board that you can do over the summer?

I have no idea if they are mailed out in waves. I know all my 1L friends got their housing assignment / lottery results at the same time last Thursday. There were a lot of unhappy people :-( I guess me raving about Feli on this board didn't really help them....hehehe.

Doesn't hurt to email Jennifer Smith and ask. I'm sure she will get back to you quickly.

I don't know if you can swap your room assignment. Might want to check with Jennifer but I think you are stuck with it as there is quite a waitlist (1Ls and 2Ls) who would be willing to take any room that opens up.

Enjoy your summer everyone. Hopefully, you will arrive in August - rested and ready to work hard! (and play hard too I guess)

Yeah, I got mine with a lot of other people. I don't have two bathrooms, but it looks pretty nice. I just feel lucky to have gotten it!

Hmm okay, thanks...has anyone not gotten their housing assignment as well, but had sent in the request by the May 1st deadline? Or maybe it's some e-mail mistake?

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
